HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 4.0

The shared storage must contain an LVM volume that includes an ext3 file system type for
the dump partition to be mounted locally on one of the nodes and served to the rest of the
nodes in the HP XC configuration.
The following enhancements were made to the improved availability feature:
Improved availability features were upgraded to use Serviceguard Version 11.18 to take
advantage of the latest available Serviceguard features.
Power management features have been enhanced. If you assign the
avail_node_management role to another node in an availability set with the head node,
power management features are also configured on that other node. This provides you with
the ability to control power on nodes in the cluster in the event that the head node is
unavailable.
The HP XC NTP configuration was modified to add support for multiple internal servers.
If you assign the avail_node_management role to another node in an availability set with
the head node, the head node and the other node are both configured as peers and internal
NTP servers for the cluster.
The HP XC System Software Installation Guide describes how to configure services for improved
availability.
1.8 New Configuration Options Offered by the cluster_config Utility
The cluster_config utility offers the following new configuration options:
If an InfiniBand (IB) interconnect is in use, you have the option to configure IB bonding. IB
bonding only applies if the hardware configuration has multiple IB connections and
configures two interfaces to appear as one. IB bonding provides improved reliability and
in some modes, network traffic can be load balanced among bonded slaves.
Some services can be configured to run over the interconnect rather than the administrative
network, including: ntp, ldap, nat, dbserver, and hptc_cluster_fs.
You are prompted to configure improved availability for the services listed in Section 1.7
(page 8).
If you assign the new ldap_server role to a node, you are prompted to specify Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) configuration information.
All configuration questions and answers are documented in the HP XC System Software Installation
Guide.
1.9 Changes to the Golden Image and Golden Client
The following changes were made to the golden image and golden client:
Use the --gc imageserver option of the updateimage command to designate the golden
client.
Use the si_rmimage --init command in conjunction with the updateimage command
to create a completely new golden image.
1.10 New Power Saving Feature
This release introduces the CPU frequency-based power-saving feature, which adjusts the
processor clock frequency to save CPU power consumption. This feature sets the node's processor
clock frequency to its minimum frequency when it is idle and sets it to its highest setting when
it runs a Standard LSF job.
1.11 Changes to Load Sharing Facility
A new version of Platform Computing Load Sharing Facility (LSF), Version 7.3, has been integrated
with HP XC.
