1 Plug-in description The HP StorageWorks P9000 Disk Array Plug-In for Oracle Enterprise Manager software enables database administrators to: • identify bottlenecks on the disk arrays where databases reside • identify which Oracle objects reside on which array groups • correlate array group capacity with poor database performance • identify I/O cycles available on a specific disk array or across several disk arrays The HP StorageWorks P9000 Disk Array Plug-In for Oracle Enterprise Manager software i
2 Prerequisites This section lists the prerequisites that are required before deploying the plug-in. Plug-in host configuration prerequisites The plug-in host requires the Oracle Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface (EMCLI) and HP RAID Manager library. • EMCLI installation and configuration The EMCLI must be installed on the plug-in host. Installation and user documentation is available from Oracle at: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/documentation/index.
Use uname –S to name or rename a node. • HP–UX patches To use the plug-in, the PHCO_36309 patch must be installed. The plug-in support is listed in “Plug-in description” (page 5) (HP–UX nodes not listed are ignored). • Monitored LUN OS device permission The plug-in will not be able to monitor storage devices on operating systems if the any device special files are not given the correct Oracle ownership and permission.
3 Installation and removal This section describes installation and removal steps for the plug-in. Obtaining the plug-in 1. Deploying the plug-in 1. 2. Select HP StorageWorks P9000 Disk Array plug-in in the Management Plug-ins list and then click the Deploy icon. Select an Oracle agent for the deployment by clicking an agent. 3. Follow the steps provided by Enterprise Manager. Adding a plug-in target instance After the plug-in has been deployed to a host, you can add new target instances. To add target instances: 1. 2. 3.
• EMCLI Installed Path – (required) specifies the location of the installation path for the Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface. You need to configure Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface with Oracle Management Server (OMS) as a prerequisite step (see “Prerequisites” (page 6)). • The following plug-in instance properties are required for performance monitoring reports. If you are not using performance monitoring reports, you can enter these values later.
4 Monitoring P9000 and XP disk arrays When the plug-in is deployed, the disk array appears in the agent's monitored target list and clicking the link takes you to the plug-in home page. The status of the plug-in is shown in the top left area of the screen.
5 Reports This chapter describes the reports provided by HP disk array plug-in. Reports can be filtered by fields as indicated in “Report Filters” (page 12). Descriptions of the filters are shown in “Report filter descriptions” (page 13). To view the filter results, click the Go button that appears at the top of each table. “Report locations and available filters” (page 12) lists report locations and their available report filters.

LUN configuration report This report provides LUN configuration information on LUNs configured (presented) to one or more hosts managed by the Oracle Enterprise Manager. The LUNs can be from one or more arrays configured to plug-in host. NOTE: To reduce report page load time, filter selections are not updated in the reports until you click Go.
Storage device to database file mapping report This report provides the mapping from storage devices to the database components. To reduce report page load time, filter selections are not updated in the reports until you click Go. Database file to storage device mapping report This report provides mapping from database components to storage devices. To reduce report page load time, filter selections are not updated in the reports until you click Go.
ASM disk group to storage mapping report This report provides the mapping between the Automatic Storage Management (ASM) disk group and storage devices. This report also provides the disk group storage utilization information. To reduce report page load time, filter selections are not updated in the reports until you click Go.
Storage device to OS device mapping report This report provides the mapping between the storage devices (LUNs) and Host OS devices (Device files) as well as storage utilization information. To reduce report page load time, filter selections are not updated in the reports until you click Go. Database usage summary report This report displays storage allocation of the top five databases of the selected disk array.
Front-end performance statistics This report provides the array front-end (Host Port) performance statistics. All disk arrays configured with the plug-in are monitored. Back-end performance statistics This report provides the array back-end (ACP) performance statistics. All disk arrays configured for the plug-in are monitored.
User selected database performance statistics report This report displays the average performance statistics of the LUNs contributing to a database and of the selected disk array. Enter the Database Name and Array Serial No. using Monitoring Configuration option in the plug-in home page (see “HP P9000 StorageWorks plug-in home page” (page 11)). Only valid databases are used for performance statistics graphs.
Ports performance statistics report This report provides the performance statistics of the array controller ports through which LUNs are configured to the hosts managed by the Oracle Enterprise Manager. The user can input the Array Serial No. using the Monitoring Configuration option in the plug-in home page (see “HP P9000 StorageWorks plug-in home page” (page 11)). All metrics This report provides the performance metrics in a chart format.
1. From the All Metrics page, click LUN Perf. The LUN Perf page appears. 2. To select Total I/O per second, from below the LUN Total I/O Per Sec column, click the value for a LUN. In this example, the value of 1448 is selected for LUN 50 027470079. 3. A window appears showing statistics and a chart of the LUN Total I/O Per Sec. From the View Data menu, you can select the chart duration (24 hours, 7 hours, 31 days, etc.).
6 Alert threshold and collection schedule settings The plug-in allows you to set alerts for performance metrics and the collection schedule. “Collection metrics” (page 22) displays the metric name, default collection time, and description for each of the collections. 3. Enter the alert settings for Metrics in the fields below the Warning Threshold and Critical Threshold columns. Changing the collection schedule 1. 2. From the Metric and Policy Settings page, click a value for the metric in the Collection Schedule column. The collection schedule wizard appears. Follow the on-screen steps to modify the schedule.
Monitoring alerts Alerts will appear on the Plug-in home page. 24 1. 2. Click the Plug-in home page. Below Alerts, click an alert (LUN Read I/O Per Sec for 10055/50 02747004F/00:4f in the figure). 3. The alert details window appears.
7 Troubleshooting Using the OS File System Mount Point to Storage Device Mapping report If the OS File System Mount Point to Storage Device Mapping report does not show any records, query the Enterprise Manager Repository view. If no records exist in this view, contact Oracle support. Viewing metric collection errors To determine if there are errors on any reports: 1. In the plug-in home page (see “HP P9000 StorageWorks plug-in home page” (page 11)), click All Metrics (below Related Links).
3. To view the details of an error message, click a link below the Message column. The Error Details page appears. “Report error messages” (page 26) lists report error messages and solutions.
