DescriptionSoftware
Allows Replication Manager to perform database backup and restore operations.
The agent internally manages the relationships between backup objects and
their associated logical units within the storage systems, the relationships between
primary and secondary volumes, and the backup history.
Application Agent
Installed as part of Application Agent, VSS is used to create, restore, and verify
Exchange database replicas (snapshots). Application Agent requires two servers
(one database server and one backup server) to back up Exchange data. The
database server can manage the primary volumes. The backup server imports
VSS snapshots and verifies the Exchange database.
To backup an Exchange database, the Exchange management tools must be
installed on both the database server and the backup server. For Exchange
Server 2003, the ESEUTIL command must also be installed. The ESEUTIL
command does not need to be installed for any other versions of Exchange
Server.

RM Shadow Copy
(Exchange only)
Replication Manager in standby configuration
To prepare for disaster recovery, you can install Replication Manager on a management server at
the standby site and leave it operating in maintenance mode. Should the primary server fail, the
standby server can be brought into service by taking it out of maintenance mode. For details about
how to set maintenance mode, see the HP P9000 Replication Manager Software User Guide.
