A Connecting to P9000 mainframe agent
This appendix describes how to specify the information required for linking with P9000 mainframe
agent.
About connecting to P9000 mainframe agent
Device Manager linked with P9000 mainframe agent can use the GUI to display the following
information recognized by a mainframe host:
Mainframe volume information (VOLSER and DEVN)
Logical DKC serial number of a storage system
To use the GUI to display information recognized by a mainframe host, you must set up the mainframe
host and Device Manager environments.
Setting up the mainframe host environment
The following procedure shows how to set up the mainframe host environment.
To set up the mainframe host environment:
1. Install P9000 mainframe agent on the mainframe host.
2. On the mainframe host, set up the P9000 mainframe agent environment.
When you specify the host name that P9000 mainframe agent uses for reporting to Device
Manager, do not specify the name of a host that is already being managed by Device Manager
(including external connection ports that are being managed by Device Manager as hosts). To
ensure that you do not specify such a host name, use one of the following methods:
In the initialization parameter for setting up the P9000 mainframe agent environment, specify
the host name to be used to report to Device Manager. Note that DNS must be able to resolve
the host name you specify.
If a host name that DNS can resolve is identical to a host name already managed by Device
Manager, specify the host identification name of the mainframe host in the initialization
parameter for setting up the P9000 mainframe agent environment.
If neither of the above two methods avoids host name duplication, change the host name of
the relevant host managed by Device Manager.
If none of the above methods allow you to set a unique host name, specify any host name
for the applicable initialization parameter to set up the P9000 mainframe agent environment.
3. Start P9000 mainframe agent.
Setting up the Device Manager environment
The following procedure shows how to set up a Device Manager environment that enables the GUI
to display mainframe volume information and logical DKC serial numbers of storage systems.
