7 Understanding the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor
upgrade prerequisites
This chapter describes the prerequisites to upgrade the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor software
and the host agents, and explains the upgrade checklist. For more information, see “HP XP P9000
Performance Advisor and host agents upgrade checklist” (page 103). To install HP XP P9000
Performance Advisor, see “HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor and host agents installation checklist”

Upgrade checklist for HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor
The HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor provides an upgrade checklist that guides you through the
upgrade and initial collection of configuration, and performance data (see “HP XP P9000
Performance Advisor and host agents upgrade checklist” (page 103)). This checklist is also available
when you begin upgrade. For more information, see “Launching the HP XP P9000 Performance
Advisor checklist” (page 48).
The upgrade checklist contains prerequisites and tasks that you must address before:
1. Upgrading HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor on a management station.
2. Upgrading HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor host agents on the respective hosts.
3. Logging in to HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor, plotting charts to verify that the performance
data is migrated, and continuing with configuration and performance data collection.
NOTE:
• The upgrade checklist is available starting with HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor v4.6.
Review the checklist and complete only those items that are applicable to your current Storage
Area Networks setup. After you complete a particular item, select the adjacent check box to
mark it complete to indicate that you have verified all the items and are ready to install, and
use HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor. Keep the checklist open till you complete the upgrade
and start using HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor.

• Before upgrading HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor: This section lists the tasks and
prerequisites that you must complete before starting the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor
upgrade process on your management station.
• Upgrading HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor: This section directs you to the HP XP P9000
Performance Advisor installation wizard.
• After upgrading HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor: This section lists the post-upgrade tasks
