HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Software v6.0 Install Guide

12 Installing Oracle patches and security updates
This section describes the Oracle patch installation procedure to apply the latest patches and
security features for the Oracle instance that is installed with HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor.
It is not mandatory to install the patches. It is required only if you want to meet the security
compliance standards of Oracle within your organization.
IMPORTANT:
Only the Oracle patch installer provided with HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor should be
used to install the patches for the Oracle instance. The Oracle patch installer provided with
HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor v6.0 includes the latest Critical Patch Update (CPU) released
by Oracle in January 2014. This patch includes fixes provided in the earlier patch releases.
During the course of patch installation, several command windows are created. Do not close
any of them. The installer will ensure that these windows close at the end of appropriate
operations.
During the period when the Oracle patch installation is in progress, HP XP P9000 Performance
Advisor will not collect any performance data. After the patch installation is complete, data
collection resumes.
The time taken for Oracle patch installation depends on the size of your database. It might
take significant time for large databases.
Before installing the Oracle patches, ensure that the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor v6.0
is installed on your management station.
The drive pointed to by the %temp% environment variable, where you plan to execute the
Oracle patch installer should have at least 2 GB of free disk space.
The Oracle patch installation must be done by the same user who installed HP XP P9000
Performance Advisor.
Two different versions of Oracle, v11.1.0.6.0 and v11.1.0.7.0 are included in the HP XP P9000
Performance Advisor installation kit. The HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor installation wizard
deploys the appropriate version on your management station based on the Windows operating
version installed (see following):
v11.1.0.6.0: Microsoft Windows 2003 and Microsoft Windows XP
v11.1.0.7.0: Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 2008, and Windows
2008 R2
For example, if you run the Oracle patch installer on a Microsoft Windows 2003 32-bit system,
the Oracle 32-bit v11.1.0.6.0 is installed accordingly.
Prerequisites
Before executing the Oracle patch installer, do the following:
1. Take a backup of the installed PADB database, the Oracle base directory, and the Oracle
inventory under the c:\Program files\oracle directory using the Backup utility. The
environment variable %PADB_HOME% points to the Oracle base directory. You can restore the
inventory later if required.
For more information on using the Backup utility, see the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor
Software User Guide.
NOTE: The database install location and the Oracle base directory are the same.
2. Stop all client connections and tools (such as HP XP P9000Watch, HP XP P9000Info) that are
currently using HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor related files.
