4 Installing the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor host
agents
This chapter describes the process to install HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Windows and
UNIX host agents. The installation process is described in the following topics:

Downloading the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor host agents and HP
XP P9000Info software
NOTE: This section is common for both the installation and upgrade procedures.
To download the host agent file and HP XP P9000Info software:
1. Log on to HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor. For more information, see “Launching HP XP
P9000 Performance Advisor” (page 66).
2. In the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Home screen, click Support in the title pane.
3. Navigate to the Host Agents section. A list of host agents for supported operating platforms
is provided.
4. Click the link for the host agent you want to select and download the host agent file to your
host.
5. Navigate to the HP XP P9000Info section and download the HP XP P9000Info software.
6. FTP both the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor host agent file and the HP XP P9000Info
software to the tmp directory, or to a location of your choice on the remote host.
If required, you can also download and install the CLUI software, HP XP P9000Watch, and
HP XP P9000Sketch. For more information on downloading and installing the above-mentioned
utilities, see the respective product documentation. For the documentation download details,
see “Related information (page 116).
7. If not already done, install HP XP P9000Info on your host to verify that the connectivity to the
command device is established. For more information, see “Verifying host agent connectivity
to a command device (page 43).
IMPORTANT: You must create and assign a command device from an XP or a P9000 disk
array to your host agent. If not yet created, the corresponding RAID Manager Library version
will not be displayed in the Host Information table when you request for a host agent update
after the installation. For more information on communicating with host agents, see the HP XP
