HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor Software v6.0 Install Guide

6 Using HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor
After installing the HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor and the host agents, start collecting the
configuration and the performance data for the XP and the P9000 disk arrays.
You can initiate configuration data collection for only one XP or P9000 disk array at a time, and
select only one command device through which you can collect data for the XP or the P9000 disk
array. To frequently monitor and collect performance data for the XP and the P9000 disk arrays,
create two performance data collection schedules each for an XP or a P9000 disk array. The
components that are not selected as part of the first schedule are automatically added to the second
schedule that you create. You can set different collection frequencies for components that belong
to the DKC, ports, and the RAID group resource types, and also enable the schedules for automatic
updates. The collection frequency set for a RAID group in a schedule is applicable for any
component of the continuous access journal, snapshot, ThP, and the external RAID group types. It
is applicable only if they are selected for the performance data collection.

IMPORTANT:
Ensure that the date and time on the management station, and the hosts are synchronized
with the local time zone to receive accurate configuration data.
If you are collecting performance data for the first time, it takes longer than usual for HP XP
P9000 Performance Advisor to collect the data. The subsequent performance data collection
on the XP and the P9000 disk arrays is as per the time specified in the Frequency section.
Requesting host update
IMPORTANT: Perform this procedure only if you have made changes to your host agent or to
the XP and the P9000 disk arrays connected to your host agent. If no changes are made, you can
directly collect the configuration and performance data for your XP and P9000 disk arrays.
To request a host update:
1. Log on to HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor. For more information, see “Launching HP XP
P9000 Performance Advisor” (page 66).
2. Click Monitoring+Array View in the left pane.
3. Click the Host Information tab on the Array View screen.
4. In the Host Information table, select the host agents whose configuration details you want to
update in HP XP P9000 Performance Advisor.
5. Click Request Info. The Request Info button is enabled only when you select the host agents.
Use the Shft or the Ctrl key to select multiple host agent records.
The request is executed in the subsequent data collection cycle. After HP XP P9000 Performance
Advisor retrieves the latest information from the host, the following changes are updated for
that host agent record in the Host Information table:
The Status changes to Received
The latest time stamp is displayed under Updated
The version of the host agent installed on the host is displayed under HA Version
After the host agent records are updated, create a configuration data collection schedule. For more
information, see “Collecting configuration data” (page 94).
