HP XP P9000 Replication Manager Software 7.6.1-00 Configuration Guide

DescriptionSoftware
Used to achieve integrated management of disk resources and for configuring
storage system hardware. You can run and manage a system consisting of
multiple storage systems.
An instance of Device Manager server running on the same management server
as Replication Manager is called an instance of "local Device Manager".
Instances of Device Manager running on the a management server different
from the management server on which Replication Manager is running are called
instances of "remote Device Manager".
Note that even when the instance of Device Manager server is running on a
primary site, if Replication Manager is running on a different management
server, the instance of Device Manager server on the primary site is still called
"remote Device Manager".
For details about Device Manager server, see the HP P9000 Command View
Advanced Edition Suite Software Administrator Guide.
Device Manager server
Used to control copy group configurations located on storage systems from a
host.
Via BCM Agent, Replication Manager monitors and performs copy pair
operations on storage systems managed by HP StorageWorks P9000 for Business
Continuity Manager. For details about HP StorageWorks P9000 for Business
Continuity Manager, see the HP P9000 for Business Continuity Manager
Software User Guide.
Note: Pair management using Replication Manager requires HP StorageWorks
P9000 for Business Continuity Manager 6.2 or later - earlier releases only
support data collection.
HP StorageWorks P9000
for Business Continuity
Manager and BCM Agent
Used to collect information about hosts and storage systems.
In conjunction with P9000 mainframe agent, Replication Manager monitors
information about configurations and statuses of copy pairs created by Peer to
Peer Remote Copy (PPRC). For details about P9000 mainframe agent, see the
HP P9000 Command View Advanced Edition Suite Software Mainframe Agent
Installation and Configuration Guide.
P9000 mainframe agent
NOTE:
Do not perform concurrent operations from other applications (including HP StorageWorks P9000
for Business Continuity Manager) on volumes, copy groups, or copy pairs that are the target of running
(or scheduled) tasks. Doing so might result in an error.
P9000 mainframe agent versus BCM Agent
P9000 mainframe agent is installed on a pair management server and allows Replication Manager
to monitor mainframe pairs. BCM Agent is installed as part of HP StorageWorks P9000 for Business
Continuity Manager and enables Replication Manager to manage mainframe pairs. In effect, HP
StorageWorks P9000 for Business Continuity Manager replaces P9000 mainframe agent, with BCM
Agent acting as a link with Replication Manager.
If you are adding HP StorageWorks P9000 for Business Continuity Manager to your storage
configuration, and instances of P9000 mainframe agent are already configured, it is not necessary
to remove them.
If you are setting up a new configuration with HP StorageWorks P9000 for Business Continuity
Manager and Replication Manager, there is no need to install P9000 mainframe agent.
