the database services offline. However, for a restore operation in which the cluster resources are
currently online, you only need to take the databases offline that are involved in the restore oper-
ation.
• You can put together a cluster configuration using only database servers. You cannot allocate one
cluster server to a database server and the other cluster server to a backup server.
• Depending on the storage system type and features of the operating system, you might not be
able to perform a restore operation while the cluster is online.
Virtual environments supported by Application Agent
This section describes the following virtual environments supported by Application Agent:
• VMware ESX/ESXi Server, page 78
• Windows Server Hyper-V, page 79
VMware ESX/ESXi Server
Application Agent supports a Windows environment that functions as a guest OS. If provided as a
guest OS of the virtual server products, VMware ESX/ESXi Server 4.x and 5.x are also supported.
The following notes apply:
• Application Agent does not support VMware FT (Fault Tolerance).
• Do not run VMware live migration (VMware vMotion) and Application Agent at the same time. If
you run both concurrently, execution of Application Agent might fail. In such a case, please take
action according to message shown in the troubleshooting information.
• When applying the VSS correction module that includes Hotfix 940349, please apply the module
on all servers using VSS.
• Application Agent can only perform backups of RAW LUNs to which RAW device mapping has
been applied by using the physical compatibility mode).
• For VMware ESXi 5.x, configurations are not supported in which a software FCoE adapter is used
to connect a primary or secondary volume to a database server, backup server, or pair management
server on a guest OS.
• Depending on the connection method used by the guest OS, the VMware ESX/ESXi support status
varies. The support status for each connection method used by the guest OS is as follows:
