1 Understanding the installation process
Insight Management installation process
The Insight Management distribution media contains an installation wizard, the HP Insight
Management Installer.
The Installer deploys and configures HP Systems Insight Manager and all essential Insight
Management or the infrastructure management software or both.
The Installer presents you with a series of installation and configuration questions to guide you
through a new installation, an upgrade of existing software, or a combination of both. You can
perform a new installation of one or more software products as well as upgrade currently installed
Insight Management products in the same session. For a new installation, you select software
products from the list of software that is available on the distribution media. Existing installed
software is automatically selected for upgrading. You can select all software products and their
components or select a customized combination of software products and their components.
The Installer automatically selects any dependent software you must install. For example, you cannot
install some software products without installing HP Systems Insight Manager as well.
Ensure success by running the Insight Management Advisor first
The Insight Management Advisor, included in the HP Insight Management DVD, analyzes and tests
your current software and Central Management Server (CMS) environment to ensure that it meets
all installation criteria and provides you with corrective action for problems it identifies. HP
recommends that you run the Advisor before you begin the installation or upgrade process. The
results of the tests help you to identify issues or deficiencies with the target server that would cause
issues with HP Systems Insight Manager and its integrated software products. You can select the
types of tests to run or restrict the tests to those for a specific software product.
IMPORTANT: To install HP Insight Management, you need to have the administrative privileges
on the server.
NOTE: To modify the Windows settings, the user needs to be either an Administrator or must
have Administrative privileges on the CMS.
Installation user interface
When you insert the HP Insight Management DVD #1 into the CMS or mount ISO image #1, an
end user license agreement (EULA) appears, which you must read and accept before you can
continue. After accepting the EULA, the HP Insight Management start-up window is displayed, and
you see the following tabs:
• Install is the starting point for the Insight Management Advisor and the Integrated Installer
• Products describes the Insight Management products shipped on the distribution media
• What's New describes the new features introduced in the release
• Learn More links to more product information for Insight Control, Matrix Operating Environment,
Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager, and BladeSystem Matrix
• Documentation provides direct access to PDF files for the installation documentation and other
user documentation
• Support and Training describes how to obtain support, free services, and training from HP
and provides links to useful HP websites
