This guide explains how to configure your printer on a supported
network using HP JetAdmin. Each chapter of this guide supports
a different network operating system (such as Novell, Windows NT,
or UNIX) in conjunction with a client operating system.
1. This guide assumes that you have the following:
A good working knowledge of your network operating system
and your network utilities.
A supported network operating system.
A fully operational system.
Access to the supervisor account as a network administrator,
or access to an account that has supervisor and print server
configuration privileges.
2. Before you use this guide, complete the following tasks:
Make sure your network is up and running.
Install and set up the printer according to the instructions in
the printer’s getting started guide or user’s guide.
Install any options in the printer (such as a duplexing unit for
two-sided printing).
If your HP JetDirect print server came pre-installed in the
printer, follow the instructions in the printer’s getting started
guide or user’s guide to connect the print server to the network.
If your HP JetDirect print server did not come pre-installed in
the printer, follow the instructions in the hardware
installation guide for your HP JetDirect print server.
3. Depending on the network environment (network operating
system and client system), install the HP JetDirect software on
either the administrator’s computer or the network server.
If the HP JetAdmin software is provided with your printer
software, follow the instructions in your printer’s getting
started guide or user’s guide to install the software.
If the HP JetAdmin software is provided on your HP JetDirect
print server CD-ROM or if you downloaded the software from
HP’s web site, follow the instructions in the appropriate
