Glossary
A
application A client of a storage system, or a consumer of a storage service.
array A physical storage device or an aggregate set of devices containing one or more storage pools
that serves storage to clients and provides an application programming interface or a management
console to allow an administrator to manage the storage provided by the device.
BNA Brocade Network Advisor
C
catalog The repository of service requests, services, service groups, and resources managed by SPM.
See also Storage catalog.
committed capacity The amount of storage within a storage pool or volume that is in use by clients. The free space
in a storage pool is the difference between the physical capacity and the committed capacity.
In thinly-provisioned volumes, the committed capacity is the space actually in use. In
fully-provisioned volumes, the committed capacity is the same as the capacity of the volume.
conformant Within SPM, a service is conformant if and only if all the requirements that define the service are
satisfied.
constraint Constraints are the properties used to describe a storage volume to be matched to storage services
or requirements, and are used to filter the available storage volumes. Constraint types are tags,
RAID level, storage capacity, presentation, and capabilities.
CPG Common Provisioning Group. A type of storage pool used on the HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage
System.
HP P6000
Command View
Software
A comprehensive software suite designed to simplify array management and provisioning for the
high performance HP P6000/EVA (Enterprise Virtual Array) family of storage arrays.
D
deactivation Deactivation is the transition of a storage service from the resourced state into the unresourced
state. An unresourced storage service's definition (a set of requirements) is available within the
system, but the service is not associated with any resources or any host systems.
E
endpoint Within a storage area network, devices providing or consuming storage are known as endpoints
and are identified by a World Wide Name (WWN).
endpoints of
interest
Endpoints that are used by resources that are imported into SPM or are depended upon by an
SPM service.
HP Enterprise
Virtual Arrays
EVA disk array provides designed-in virtualization to support your most critical applications as
well as your bulk storage needs. Now known as the HP P6000 family of arrays.
F
Fabric Fibre Channel network composed of one or more interconnected FC Switches.
H
HP Matrix OE Cloud management software for infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Matrix OE includes Matrix OE
infrastructure orchestration as well as logical server management capabilities and the means to
manage storage pool entries.
HP Matrix OE
infrastructure
orchestration
Provides rapid provisioning and repurposing of infrastructure services from shared resource pools
using a self-service portal.
