1. Select ToolsPreferences.
The Preferences dialog box appears.
2. Click Data Size Format.
3. Select the down-arrow to choose one of three formats, and then click OK:
Binary—Format data sizes using binary units (example: 1 Kibibyte = 1024 bytes)
Decimal—Format data sizes using decimal units (example: 1 Kilobyte = 1000 bytes)
Binary (decimal units)—Format data sizes using binary values with decimal units (example:
1 Kilobyte = 1024 bytes)

NOTE: Matrix OE uses decimal units.
Backup and restore
SPM 2.2 participates in the Matrix 7.2 backup and restore framework. See Backing up and
restoring HP Insight Management 7.2 Central Management Server (Windows) White Paper, at
http://www.hp.com/go/matrixoe/docs for information about performing a backup and a restore
within the Matrix environment. The procedures there describe how to backup and restore the Matrix
environment, including backing up and restoring the state of SPM.
After the SPM catalog has been restored from backup, Matrix automatically puts SPM into Internal
Recovery mode. When in Internal Recovery mode, SPM does not allow normal storage management
activities, and instead puts all volumes into quarantine, and sets each volume's “Signature State
field. The “Signature State field is used to inform the user what aspects of each volume changed
between when the backup was created and when the restore is occurring. In particular, the services
the volume is connected to are examined to populate the “Signature State. The user should use
this field to make decisions about how to proceed after the backup has been restored. The goal
is to resynchronize the state of the SPM catalog with the state of the storage services and volumes
being managed.
When SPM has populated the “Signature State field of each volume, SPM switches to Manual
Recovery mode. The user should take appropriate action based on the Signature State of each
volume, which is found in SPM's volume list. The possible “Signature State values of volumes
imported into SPM after internal recovery is complete, and actions the user may choose to take
