Introduction A new role in Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 SP1, called RemoteFX, provides enhancements to the Remote Desktop Services, improving the performance and experience of virtual desktop users. This document gives you instructions for installing RemoteFX on the following HP ProLiant servers. We do not recommend implementing RemoteFX on other ProLiant servers.

IMPORTANT Unless you require the RemoteFX feature, we do not recommend installing a GPU in the ProLiant server. GPUs required to support RemoteFX are not compatible with the embedded graphics device that drives the console port. Installation of a qualified GPU in order to install RemoteFX requires you to disable the embedded graphics device, resulting in no display on the VGA console. In addition, the iLO Remote Console will not function after installing a GPU and enabling RemoteFX.

Read the HP ProLiant DL/ML370 G6 Servers Graphics card power cable kit Installation Instructions and select the cable with the pin connector that matches your GPU.

4. Connect the other end of the cable to either power connector P9 or P12. For more information on the cable installation, refer to the cable labels and the documentation included with the cable kit. Figure 2: Single-GPU configuration 5. Replace the black plastic plate and fan cage. For instructions on replacing parts, refer to the HP ProLiant DL/ML370 G6 Server Maintenance and Service Guide. 7. Connect the ends of the cables labeled “Graphics Card” to the GPUs. 8. Connect the other ends of the cables to the power connector P9 and power connector P12.
