MPE/iX Version of STM

MPE/iX Version of STM
With MPE/iX 6.5, the Support Tools Manager (STM) replaced the SYSDIAG online diagnostic system on
HP 3000 computer systems. SYSDIAG, known internally as "Sherlock", has been the online diagnostic
system for HP 3000 systems for more than 13 years.
STM, the new platform for online diagnostics, was first introduced on HP-UX systems in 1996.
STM was ported to MPE/iX to provide a common diagnostics platform for MPE/iX and HP-UX systems.
This common platform reduces the cost to support new systems and peripherals, and make it possible to
bring new tools to MPE/iX 6.5 and beyond. STM will not be provided on any previous MPE/iX release.
The first release of STM on MPE/iX is based on the HP-UX 11.00 A.11.00 version of STM (June 1998,
IPR 9806).
Note: For STM to run, networking must be configured and enabled for remote access, for example by
using the NMMGR and NETCONTROL commands. The reason is that STM has a dependency on
Berkeley Sockets/iX. See "STM Dependencies on MPE/iX". Please visit the BSC MPE/iX document
collection for additional information.
Support Tools Manager (STM)
The STM package provides a set of support tools for troubleshooting computer system hardware,
including CPUs, memory, interface cards, mass storage devices, etc.
Upon startup, STM can provide a system map of all of the hardware devices on your system. Using this
system map, you can select devices, receive information, or execute online support tools.
Distribution
STM is distributed on the Fundamental Operating System (FOS) tape on MPE/iX 6.5 and subsequent
releases. When MPE/iX is installed, the SYSDIAG diagnostic system will be removed and STM will be
installed.
STM is fully enabled after the system is updated with the Customized System Load Tape (CSLT) and
networking is configured and enabled for remote access. It is wise to verify STM after installation by
typing cstm at the OS prompt.
In the first phase of the release, STM for MPE/iX includes:
The diagnostic platform.
Information tools, expert tools, and firmware download tools for SCSI peripherals.
Information tools for CPUs and memory.
Expert tool for memory.
Some SYSDIAG diagnostics "wrapped" for STM.
Logtool for I/O and hardware-related logs (based on the HP-UX version of logtool). Used for I/O
events, LPMCs, memory, etc.
A second, standalone version of logtool similar to the existing SYSDIAG logtool. This version will
