Fields
Retransmission
maximum This is the maximum number of times that an ARP
request packet will be retransmitted. If an ARP reply
packet for this request is not received after this number
of retransmissions, the attempted address resolution is
considered to have failed. This value is bound closely to
the retransmission timeout value as described. Taken
together, they represent the total time to report an
address resolution failure.
In general, the value of this field should be kept low.
Default value: 2
Range: 1–10
Retransmission
timeout
(seconds) This is the time interval (in seconds) between ARP
retransmissions. The value should be set large enough
to avoid retransmissions in a temporarily overloaded
environment, yet the value should be small enough to
receive a timely failure report when a failure is
inevitable.
Default value: 1
Range: 1–10
