Manual

key HP ProLiant management software and services, such as HP Insight Management WBEM
Providers.
The HP ProLiant server event processing rules rely on HP Insight Management WBEM Providers
and data written to the Windows Event Log to identify and process HP ProLiant hardware
events.
When an HP Insight Management WBEM Provider generates an event, a corresponding entry
is written to the Windows Event Log, which is the primary event data source used by Operations
Manager. If the HP event in the Windows Event Log has an associated event processing rule
defined by an HP ProLiant Server Management Pack, an Operations Manager alert is generated
and written to the appropriate view in the SCOM console.
HP alerts in Operations Manager include clear event details and Knowledge Base data
designed to enable rapid analysis of real-time and prefailure conditions. Certain hardware
events reported to the Windows Event Log can also generate additional events that indicate
a change in hardware state.
WMI management and planning
HP Insight Management WBEM Providers enable WMI-based server management to ProLiant
servers. HP continues to improve the providers to match the capability of the HP Insight Management
Agents. For more information, see the HP Insight Management WBEM Provider (2.1 or higher)
User Guide.
HP ProLiant Server WMI Management Pack provides seamless WMI management capability. After
you import the WMI HP ProLiant Server WMI Management Pack, WMI management starts without
requiring any customization.
NOTE: If both are installed, the HP ProLiant Server Management Pack selects the agents as
default. For more information, see “Overriding the HP ProLiant Server Management setting for the
SNMP and WMI management protocol preferences” (page 8).
Key features of the HP ProLiant Server WMI Management Pack include the following:
The views in the SCOM console are shared with the base management pack. No additional
views are added.
Class data structure is based on the original server management pack, and operation and
processing is the same with the released management pack.
If a server has both the HP Insight Management WBEM Providers and the HP Insight
Management Agents installed, you can enable WMI management by using the override setting
(see “Overriding the HP ProLiant Server Management setting for the SNMP and WMI
management protocol preferences” (page 8)).
HP ProLiant Server WMI Management Pack is part of the current HP ProLiant Server
Management Pack. You choose whether to install it during the installation process. This applies
to HP ProLiant Server Management Pack v1.x only.
Views
The SCOM console provides a collection of folders and windows for viewing information stored
in the management database. The HP ProLiant Server Management Pack includes predefined HP
server views that present information about each HP server and associated alerts.
