HP Remote Management

On HP ProLiant 100 series G6 servers, Lights-Out 100i works with HP Systems Insight Manager,

RBSU, ORCA, and the embedded Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) to provide entry-level

remote management and control.

On ProLiant 300 series G6 servers and ProLiant G6 server blades, HP designed iLO 2 to work with

HP Systems Insight Manager, Insight Control, and Insight Dynamics to give administrators control over

four aspects of each server:

 Simplified server setup – Your administrators can consistently configure server boot order, network

configuration, RAID settings, and other server parameters. They can also use these control

parameters with internally developed deployment scripts or with Insight Control to help decrease

deployment times compared to manual deployment methods.

 Extended embedded health – iLO 2 offers embedded health monitoring to help determine the status

of important server components, regardless of whether the OS is running or offline.

 Power and thermal control – Power and thermal controls embedded into iLO 2 can reduce server

power consumption by regulating processor clock speed and by providing an optional high-

efficiency mode for power supplies. Dynamic Power Capping with HP Insight Control extends the

life of your data center by reclaiming power and cooling capacity hidden by overly conservative

policies based on face plate ratings.

 Lights-Out remote administration – Integrated Remote Console can help save time and money by

allowing your administrators to interact with the server OS or pre-OS environment without physically

being there. They can use Virtual Media, including Virtual Folders, to deliver emergency updates to

remote servers. They can also take advantage of the multi-user console and video record and

playback to more effectively collaborate with IT staff across multiple locations.

Virtualization technologies

 HP Insight Dynamics suite for ProLiant servers is advanced infrastructure lifecycle management

software that helps you instantly adjust to dynamic business demands.

 HP Virtual Connect Flex-10 is the first technology that allows you to divide and fine tune 10Gb

Ethernet network bandwidth to match virtual machine demands.

 HP Insight Server Migration software automates the migration process by moving existing physical

or virtual servers to ProLiant G6 servers or to other virtualization platforms.

HP Insight Dynamics suite for ProLiant

HP Insight Dynamics suite for ProLiant servers is the ideal tool for capacity planning, configuration

management, infrastructure orchestration, and recovery management. Insight Dynamics can help

consolidate and dynamically provision the infrastructure, perform energy‑aware capacity planning,

and achieve high availability where it was not cost effective before. Insight Dynamics builds on the

industry-leading HP infrastructure management portfolio including Insight Control and it seamlessly

plugs into HP Systems Insight Manager. Insight Dynamics performs several functions:

 Simplifies daily operations and manage data center capacity and power proactively.

 Provisions the infrastructure in minutes with best-practice templates.

 Optimizes the infrastructure across physical and virtual resources.

Advanced remote control functionality requires an iLO Advanced license for ProLiant ML/DL servers and an iLO Advanced for BladeSystem

license for ProLiant BL servers.
