138 Monitoring and maintaining FSE
Invoke the following command:
The command starts the appropriate HSM process and switches the HSM FS filter operation for
managing accesses to the FSE partition to Full Access Mode (FAM).
Removing an FSE partition
CAUTION: When an FSE partition is removed from the FSE system, all files that have been released from
the corresponding HSM file system (offline files) will be lost.
To remove an FSE partition, proceed as follows:
1. On the FSE client system, unmount the appropriate HSM file system.
Linux specific
From the local /etc/fstab file, determine the mount point of the HSM file system, and use the
following command:
Windows specific
Using the fsepartition --show and mountvol commands determine the appropriate volume
name and use the following command:
This stops the corresponding HSM process and switches the HSM FS filter operation for managing
accesses to the FSE partition to Limited Access Mode (LAM). The partition will remain accessible in
LAM until the disk volume is reformatted or the client system is restarted.
2. On the FSE server system, use the following command:
Retrieving detailed information about configured FSE partitions
To retrieve detailed information about the configured FSE partition, use the following command:
An example of this command’s output is shown in ”Excerpt from an example output of the fsepartition --list
--detail command” on page 166.
Switching the access mode for an HSM file system
The fse command provides special options that allow you to manually switch between Limited Access
Mode (LAM) and Full Access Mode (FAM) for a particular HSM file system on a Windows FSE client.
Limitations
Limited Access Mode and emergency situations
LAM was designed to provide access to online files in emergency situations, for example, if the FSE
system cannot be started, the blocked Hierarchical Storage Manager (HSM) process cannot be
terminated, and similar exceptional circumstances. Usually, you should avoid switching manually
between HSM file system access modes, so only consider using the fse --limit-access
command in the cases mentioned above.
Limited Access Mode and the fsefile --recall command
While an HSM file system is operating in Limited Access Mode, do not invoke the
fsefile --recall command in order to recall offline files. In this operational mode offline files
should not be recalled manually.
