Checking the consistency of the File System Catalog
The File System Catalog (FSC) consists of a Data Location Catalog and a Name Space Catalog. It is
related to a single partition. FSC location is platform-dependent.
Linux specific
FSC is located in the directory /var/opt/fse/part/PartitionName/fsc.
Windows specific
FSC is located in the directory %InstallPath%\var\part\PartitionName\fsc.
The value of %InstallPath% depends on the choice made in the FSE installation process. It defaults to
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\FSE.
Since the File System Catalog functions as a link between files on the HSM file system and their storage
positions on media, and contains important data for logical verification of media and for HSM file system
recovery, it has to be consistent to enable proper FSE implementation operation. It is recommended that
you check the consistency of the File System Catalog regularly.
Consistency check of the File System Catalog is a maintenance job, running on the specified FSE partition.
It compares file data recorded in the File System Catalog either with actual files on the corresponding HSM
file system, or with Fast Recovery Information (FRI) on the corresponding FSE media. Any inconsistencies
are recorded in the FSE check log.
Consistency check of FSC vs. HSM file system
The consistency check of the File System Catalog (including the Name Space Catalog) against the HSM
file system matches FSC and NSC information on files, such as their size, file types, attributes, and
modification time with the status on the HSM file system. In case of mismatch, the results are written to the
FSE check log as follows:
Linux specific
/var/opt/fse/log/check_hsmfs_fsc_PartitionName.log
Windows specific
%InstallPath%\var\log\check_hsmfs_fsc_PartitionName.log
To perform the FSC consistency check, use the following command:
Inconsistency types
Reported inconsistencies in the FSE check log can be any of the following:
missing in FSC
A file is recorded as missing in FSC when the file ID exists on the HSM file system, but is not recorded
in FSC. Probably the file has not been successfully migrated yet, and you need to manually put it on the
dirty file list using the command fsefile --migrate FileName.
