70 Configuring FSE
4. Add the new FSE partition:
Once the partition is configured, a new Partition Manager is started for the newly configured partition.
5. Optionally, check the status of the partition and the belonging Partition Manager using the following
command:
Configuring a regular FSE partition on Windows platform
When configuring a volume for the HSM file system, verify that the prerequisites are met, and consider the
following points about volume configuration.
About Windows disk volumes
A Windows physical disk can be subdivided into volumes. Each volume has its unique volume ID, for
example Volume{729f2319-ba82-11d7-a2d5-00e01884ee37}. These volume IDs only change
when the partitioning scheme of the physical disk changes. You get this unique volume ID using the
mountvol command.
CAUTION: Windows FSE clients use volume IDs for identifying the disk volumes of the configured FSE
partitions. Volume IDs are volume name strings without the \\?\ prefix and the trailing backslash. When
configuring an FSE partition, ensure that you use volume ID and not volume name for the FileSystemID
variable in the FSE partition configuration file.
FSE partition configuration procedure
To configure an FSE partition, proceed as follows:
1. At the command prompt, enter the mountvol command. Select the volume ID of the FSE partition.
This is an example of the mountvol command output:
2. In the command output, mark and copy the \\?\Volume{number}\ value above the line
D:\hsm_fs_folder.
In the above example, you would copy the value:
3. Paste the volume name without the \\?\ prefix and the trailing backslash in the FileSystemID field
in the FSE partition configuration file.
