Definitions
The following terms are used throughout this Software Product Description.
ACS – Array Controller Software. The software and firmware that, together with the
hardware, implements the features of StorageWorks array controllers.
Clone – is a StorageWorks controller-based method of creating a physical copy of a
storage unit. A duplicate unit member is created and the members are normalized to
ensure that data is identical on each member. During creation and normalization, the
original unit remains online. SANworks EVM automates this process and allows
duplicates to be split from the originals and mounted on another host in the EVM
Network. The clone method can be applied to JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1 or RAID 0+1
units.
SANworks – is a Compaq line of software products that provides storage
management solutions, data protection and recovery, automatic performance tuning,
storage virtualization and other features for multivendor storage environments.
Snapshot – is a nearly instantaneous StorageWorks controller-based method of
creating a virtual copy of a storage unit. During creation the original unit remains
online and there is no interruption of operations. The virtual copy consists of a bitmap
stored in the array controller cache, and a temporary unit that holds data. SANworks
EVM automates this process and allows duplicates to be split from the originals and
mounted on another host in the EVM Network. The snapshot method can be applied
to JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1 or RAID 3/5 units.
StorageWorks – is a Compaq line of hardware storage solutions for multivendor
server environments.
Storage Features
With SANworks EVM, distributed storage can be controlled from a central site via a web
browser. This reduces complexity and the cost of storage management. Each EVM
Network is accessible from any system that has an Internet Explorer or Netscape web
browser.
The SANworks EVM graphical interface simplifies storage management and allows users
to create, run and manage storage replication jobs.
