Installing, Configuring, and Removing the Client
B–2 HSG80 ACS Solution Software Version 8.7 for Compaq Tru64 UNIX Installation and
Configuration Guide
Why Install the Client?
The Client monitors and manages a storage subsystem by performing the following
tasks:
• Create mirrored device group (RAID 1)
• Create striped device group (RAID 0)
• Create striped mirrored device group (RAID 0+1)
• Create striped parity device group (3/5)
• Create an individual device (JBOD)
• Monitor many subsystems at once
• Set up pager notification
Before You Install the Client
1. Verify you are logged into an account that is a member of the administrator group.
2. Check the software product description that came with the software for a list of
supported hardware.
3. Verify that you have the SNMP service installed on the computer. SNMP must be
installed on the computer for this software to work properly. The Client software
uses SNMP to receive traps from the Agent. The SNMP service is available on the
Windows NT or Windows 2000 installation CD-ROM. To verify that you have the
SNMP service:
— For Windows NT, double-click Services in Start > Settings > Control Panel.
The entry for SNMP is shown in this window. If you install the SNMP service
and you already have Windows NT Service Pack 6A on the computer, reinstall
the service pack after installing the SNMP service.
— For Windows 2000, click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative
Tools > Component Services. The entry for SNMP is shown in the Component
Services window.
4. Read the release notes.
5. Read “Installing the Integration Patch,” page B–5 in this appendix.
6. If you have the Command Console Client open, exit the Command Console
Client.
