Outdoor Use Guidelines
Environmental conditions play a critical role in the operating characteristics of a commercial ice machine. An outdoor
installation subjects the machine to significantly more extremes and variables than does an installation in an interior
with controlled conditions. Please read these guidelines before you consider an outdoor installation.
Be Aware of Operational Temperatures
Ambient temperature and water temperature will affect the operation of a commercial ice machine. Higher ambient
temperatures than those specified in the Installation Manual will severely reduce ice production or the machine may
quit producing all together. Temperatures below the specified temperature range can result in freezing which can cause
severe damage to the ice machine. Damage caused by operating outside the prescribed range is NOT covered by
warranty.
Keep Dry
Do not locate the machine in low-lying areas where puddles will accumulate. This can cause a safety hazard or may
cause rusting or corrosion.
Provide Shade
Heat gain from the sun will reduce the unit’s ability to make and store ice, and ultraviolet radiation from the sun can
potentially damage the unit’s plastic components. Ice-O-Matic recommends the GEMU090 be installed under a roof
and/or under a counter.
Water Supply
Avoid a long run of hose or tubing exposed to the sun. Heating the water prior to entering the ice machine will reduce
ice production. Plastic water supply tubing should be rated for potable water and include UV protection. Copper
tubing is recommended.
Back Flow Prevention
The ice machine includes back flow prevention; no additional check valve is required.
Drainage
Do not drain into swimming pool or onto grounds.
Prolonged Non-Use
If your ice machine will be dormant for an extended period of time we recommend following the winterization process
in the Installation Manual.
For further information refer to the Installation Manual that is
available at www.iceomatic.com or packed with your GEMU090.
