The processor is soldered to the Desktop Board and is not customer upgradeable. NOTE The board is designed to be passively cooled in a properly ventilated chassis. Chassis venting locations are recommended above the processor heatsink area for maximum heat dissipation effectiveness.

Intel Desktop Board D945GSEJT Product Guide Digital Visual Interface (DVI) Support The DVI-D port supports digital DVI displays. The maximum supported resolution is 1600 x 1200 (UXGA). The DVI port is compliant with the DVI 1.0 specification.
Desktop Board Features The audio stream for the line-out port is routed according to the following dependencies: • • By default, the audio stream is down-mixed to mono and amplified for an internal mono speaker. If a connection is detected at the back panel line-out port, the audio stream is sent to the rear line-out port and the internal mono speaker is disabled. NOTE The back panel audio line out connector is designed to power headphones or amplified speakers only.

Desktop Board Features USB 2.0 Support The Desktop Board supports up to seven USB 2.0 ports (three ports routed to the back panel and four ports routed to two front panel USB 2.0 headers). One of the front panel USB headers supports an Intel Z-U130 USB Solid-State Drive (or compatible device). The USB 2.0 ports are backward compatible with USB 1.1 devices. USB 1.1 devices will function normally at USB 1.1 speeds. USB 2.0 support requires both an operating system and drivers that fully support USB 2.
Intel Desktop Board D945GSEJT Product Guide SATA Interface The Desktop Board supports two Serial ATA channels (3.0 Gb/s) that support one device per channel. The SATA controller supports IDE and ACHI configuration and can operate in both legacy and native modes. Expandability The Desktop Board provides the following expansion capability: • • One PCI connector. The connector can support either a single PCI add-in card or a single- or dual-slot PCI riser card. One PCI Express Full-Mini Card slot.
Desktop Board Features Security Passwords The BIOS includes security features that restrict whether the BIOS Setup program can be accessed and who can boot the computer. A supervisor password and a user password can be set for the BIOS Setup and for booting the computer, with the following restrictions: • • • The supervisor password gives unrestricted access to view and change all Setup options.

Intel Desktop Board D945GSEJT Product Guide Instantly Available PC Technology Instantly Available PC technology enables the board to enter the ACPI S3 (Suspend-toRAM) sleep-state. While in the ACPI S3 sleep-state, the computer will appear to be off (the hard drive(s) and fan will power off, the front panel power LED will blink). When signaled by a wake-up device or event, the system quickly returns to its last known state. The board supports the PCI Bus Power Management Interface Specification.

Installing and Replacing Desktop Board Components Installing the I/O Shield The Desktop Board comes with an I/O shield. When installed in the chassis, the shield blocks radio frequency transmissions, protects internal components from dust and foreign objects, and promotes correct airflow within the chassis. Install the I/O shield before installing the Desktop Board in the chassis. Place the shield inside the chassis as shown in Figure 4. Press the shield into place so that it fits tightly and securely.

Disconnect the computer from its power source before performing the procedures described here. Failure to disconnect the power before you open the computer can result in personal injury or equipment damage. Refer to your chassis manual for instructions on installing and removing the Desktop Board.
Installing and Replacing Desktop Board Components Installing System Memory NOTE To be fully compliant with all applicable Intel SDRAM memory specifications, the board requires SO-DIMMs that support the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) data structure. The Desktop Board has one 200-pin DDR2 SO-DIMM socket that supports up to 2 GB of system memory. To install system memory on the Desktop Board, see Figure 6 and follow these steps: 1. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 27. 2.

To install a wireless LAN card on the Desktop Board, see Figure 9 and follow these steps: 1. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 27. 2. Locate the PCI Express Full-Mini Card slot (Figure 1, W). 3.

This header provides support for the solid state drive. To install an Intel Z-U130 USB Solid-State Drive (or compatible device) on the Desktop Board, follow these steps: 1.

Intel Desktop Board D945GSEJT Product Guide Power Supply Connectors The board has the following power supply connectors: • • External Power Supply – the board can be powered with a 12 V external power supply though a DC connector on the back panel. The rear 12 VDC jack accepts plugs with an inner diameter (ID) of 2.5 mm and an outer diameter (OD) of 5.5 mm, where the inner contact is 12 V and the shell is GND.

Moving the jumper with the power on may result in unreliable computer operation. Figure 16 shows the location of the Desktop Board’s BIOS configuration jumper block. Figure 16. Turn off all peripheral devices connected to the computer. Disconnect the computer’s power cord from the AC power source (wall outlet or power adapter). 3. Remove the computer cover. 4. Locate the battery on the board (see Figure 17). 5. Disconnect the battery cable from the Desktop Board battery connector (Figure 17, A). 6.

3 Updating the BIOS The BIOS Setup program can be used to view and change the BIOS settings for the computer. You can access the BIOS Setup program by pressing the key after the Power-On Self-Test (POST) memory test begins and before the operating system boot begins. This chapter tells you how to update the BIOS by either using the Intel Express BIOS Update utility or the Iflash Memory Update utility, and how to recover the BIOS if an update fails.

Obtaining the BIOS Update File You can update to a new version of the BIOS by using the Iflash BIOS update file. The Iflash BIOS update file is a compressed file that contains the files you need to update the BIOS.
Updating the BIOS Recovering the BIOS It is unlikely that anything will interrupt a BIOS update; however, if an interruption occurs, the BIOS could be damaged. Table 24 lists the drives and media types that can and cannot be used for BIOS recovery. The BIOS recovery media does not have to be bootable. Table 24.

A Board Status and Error Messages This appendix describes status error messages generated by the Desktop Board’s BIOS. The BIOS indicates these error messages with LED blink codes, speaker beep codes, and by text displayed on the PC monitor. Front-panel Power LED Blink and Internal Speaker Beep Codes Basic status and error messages are provided through the front-panel power LED blink codes as well as through audible beep codes on systems with an internal speaker connected to the internal speaker header.
