Products Affected
AXXRSBBU3, MM# 899345
S5000PSLROMBR, MM# 891983
S5000PSLROMB, MM# 886037
FALSASMP2, MM# 892611
Description
The AXXRSBBU3 RAID battery has been transitioned from Ni-MH to Li-Ion cell technology. The first Li-Ion revision
(MM# 899345, TA# E44609-001, part number: E44610-150) of the battery is incompatible with the Integrated RAID
boards S5000PSLROMB(R) and FALSASMP2. The following symptoms will be observed when the affected battery
version is used with these boards:
- with S5000PSL5000ROMB(R): the battery will not be detected;
- with FALSASMP2: the system will hang during POST.
The updated Li-Ion revision (MM# 900954, TA# E44609-002, part number: E44610-250) of the battery is NOT affected
by this issue.
Ni-MH version (MM# 883471, version# D59936-001, part number: C90839-150) of the battery is NOT affected by this
issue.
The following products are NOT affected by this issue: FALSASMP, SR2500ALLXR, SR1550ALSASR, SRCSAS144E,
SRCSASJV, SRCSASPH16I. On the Intel RAID Controllers SRCSASPH16I, SRCSAS144E and SROMBSAS18E
(FALSASMP, SR2500ALLXR, SR1550ALSASR) firmware version 1.12.170-0471 or later is required to support the Li-
Ion battery; On the Intel RAID Controller SRCSASJV firmware version 1.12.172-0470 or later is required to support the
Li-Ion battery. Both are available for download at http://support.intel.com
Root Cause
The battery control circuitry of the Li-Ion based battery version has a higher power draw on the 3.3V line than the Ni-MH
version. The affected integrated RAID boards cannot provide the required current. Due to limited availability of Ni-MH
cells and in order to avoid supply interruption of the AXXRSBBU3 batteries for products that are not affected by this
issue, Intel has made the decision to release the affected Li-Ion version of the battery. An updated revision of the LiON
battery that resolves this issue is currently shipping.
