Description
Intel® Local Control Panel is an optional accessory for Intel® server boards and allows users to monitor, configure and
control servers, independently from the operating system. One current feature of the Intel® Local Control Panel allows
users to view the hardware System Event Log. Customers report, however, that the font to view the System Event Log
is too small to be readable and the time to load the Log for viewing is too long. In some configurations, users are
unable to view more than one System Event Log items regardless of the total number of entries.
Root Cause
Due to the fixed screen resolution, the font used by the Intel® Local Control Panel to display the System Event Log
cannot be enlarged.
The Intel® Local Control panel retrieves System Event Log information through the Intelligent Platform Management
Bus (IPMB) interfacing with the Baseboard Management Controller on the server. Due to limitations of the Intel® Local
Control Panel, attempting to display the System Event Logs may cause the Intel® Local Control Panel performance to
degrade and may cause the IPMB bus to time out. This may cause an incomplete display of the System Event Log.
Corrective Action / Resolution
Intel has provided a method of updating the Intel® Local Control Panel firmware to remove System Event Log viewing
as a feature. This will improve the performance of the Intel® Local Control Panel. The update is available from the
