Whenthe ovencontrolsaresetto CLEAN,the ovenheatsto temperaturesthat arehigher

than those used for cooking. The high temperaturescause food soil to burn off and

substantiallydisappear. While this occurs,a devicein the oven vent helps to consume

normalamountsofsmoke. Theovenis ventedthroughanopeningunderthecontrolpanel.

• Removethe broilerpanand anyother utensilsfromthe oven. Theseutensilscannot

withstandthe hightemperaturesof the cleaning process.

• Cleanspattersandspillsfrom thoseareas whichwill not be cleanedduringthe self-

cleaningprocess:

Note: DO NOT CLEAN serial plate located on the _,.L_t j/

oven front. To clean these areas, use hot water and

detergent, nonabrasivecleansers or soap filled steel

woolpads. Rinsethoroughly,beingcarefulnotto usean

excessiveamountof waterthatwoulddampenthedoorgasket. Soilleftintheseareas

willbemore difflbultto removeafterthe self-cleaningprocesssincethe highheat will

bake on any soil that is present. DO NOT USE COMMERCIALOVEN CLEANERS

TO CLEANTHESEAREAS.

• DO NOTA'I-FEMPTTO CLEAN,RUB,OR APPLYWATERTO GASKETON OVEN

DOOR.The gasketisessentialfor agooddoorseal. Rubbingorcleaningwilldamage

the gasket and may affectthe seal.

• Wipe up excessgrease andfood spiUoverswhich have not baked on the bottomof

the oven.Largeaccumulationsofsoilcancauseheavysmokeorfireintheovenduring

the cleaningprocess. For easeof cleaning,the heatingelementcan be liftedslightly.

• Although smoke or fire in the oven is a normal occurrenceand there is no safety

problem,there will be ventingof excessivesmokeand odor.

• The oven rackscan be cleaned inthe oven. However,the oven rackswill discolor,

lose shininess,and become difficultto slide in and out if left in the oven duringthe

cleaningprocess.REMOVERACKSFROMOVENIFTHISDISCOLORATIONWILL

BEOBJECTIONABLE.As asuggestion,donot leavetheracksinthe ovenduringthe

self-cleaningprocessif theydonot needto becleanedsincetheywill discolorto a dull

silverafteronecleaning. Moderatelysoiled rackscan becleanedwithasoapyS.O.S.

pad or Scotch-Britescour pad. Stubborn stains need to be removedin the self-

cleaningprocess. Be sureto readspecialtips on page32 if oven racks arecleaned

duringthe self-cleaningprocess.
