Setting Up Management Access
Before you power up the system, you mu st set up a manage ment console.
(See “Connecting to a Console Terminal” on page 60.) You use the console to
communica
te with the system during the power-up process, set an IP address,
andmanagethesystemusingthecommand-lineinterface(CLI).
You can manage and monitor the router through either of these methods:
Console terminal—Connect a console (PC, Macintosh, or UNIX workstation)
directly to the system’s RS-232 serial port.
Remote console— Co nnect the 10/100Base-T port on the SRP I/O mod ule to an
Ethernet
network, and run Telnet from a remote console.
For initi
al access to the system, you need to physically connect your console
directly to the system’s RS-2 3 2 port. Through this connection you can use t he
CLI to set an IP a ddress on the system. After you configu re the IP address,
you can ac
cess the system remotely (for example, via Telnet).
