Removing the Old Water Heater The water passing out of the drain valve may be extremely hot. To avoid being scalded, make sure all connections are tight and that the water flow is directed away from any person. 4. Check again to make sure the electrical supply is turned "OFF" to the water heater. Then unplug the water heater (cord set) or disconnect the electrical supply connection from the water heater junction box.
• This water heater, as welt as all water heaters, wilt eventually leak. Do not install without adequate drainage provisions so water flow will not cause damage. Mineral Buildup or Sediment MayAccumulate • This causes the water heater to become much heavier than normal. • If spilled, could causestaining. Property Damage Hazard • All water heaters eventually leak Mineral buildup or sediment may have accumulated in the old water heater.
Water Piping System Piping Installation NOTE: To protect against untimely corrosion of hot and cold water fittings, it is strongly recommended that di-electric unions or couplings be installed on this water heater when connected to copper pipe. Water temperature over 125°F (52°C) can cause severe burns instantly resulting in severe injury or death. 1. Children, the elderly, and the physically or mentally disabled are at highest riskfor scald injury. Feel water showering.
8. • After piping has been properly connected to the water heater, open the nearest hot water faucet. Then open the cold water shut off valve and allow the tank to completely fill with water. To purge the lines of any excess air and sediment, keep the hot water faucet open for 3 minutes after a constant flow of water is obtained. Close the faucet and check all connections for leaks.
Temperature-Pressure Relief Valve The Discharge Pipe: Explosion Hazard Temperature-pressure relief valve must comply with ANSI Z21.22 CSA 4.4 andASME code. • Shall not be smaller in size than the outlet pipe size of the valve, or have any reducing couplings or other restrictions. • • Shall not be plugged or blocked. Shall be of material listed for hot water distribution. • Shall be installed so as to allow complete drainage of both the temperature-pressure relief valve, and the discharge pipe.
If wiring from your fuse box or circuit breaker box was aluminum for your old water heater, replace it with copper wire. If you wish to reuse the existing aluminum wire, have the connection at the water heater made by a competent electrician. Contact your Sears salesperson to arrange for a professional electrician. Filling the Water Heater Property Damage Hazard 1. Provide a way to easily shut offthe electric power when working on the water heater.
8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. Connect the electrical supply to the water heater. NOTE: Remove the standard 1/2 inch knock-out (opening) in the junction box for conduit connections. Connect ground wire to green ground wire in the electrical junction box of the water heater. Reinstall the junction box cover. Reattach the left touvered access panel to the water heater and secure it using the screws loosened earlier. Turn on electrical power to the water heater.
Water Heater Location Condensate Drain Line [] Centrally located with the water piping system. [] [] The flooring beneath the water heater must be able to support the weight of the water heater when filled with water (See Table 1). Must be located with access condensate pump. [] Condensate drain lines installed and piped to an adequate to an adequate drain or drain or condensate pump (See Figure 9). [] Located indoors (such as a basement or garage) and in a vertical position.
Before or state law requiring a certain temperature water at the hot water tap, then you must take special precautions. In addition to using the lowest possible temperature setting that satisfies your hot water needs, some type of tempering device, such as a mixing valve, should be used at the hot water taps used by these people or at the water heater. Mixing valves are available at plumbing supply or hardware stores.

NOTE: All buttons on the User Interface are touch sensitive and require only a light touch to actuate. ® HyE3R4D Hybrid Mode - This is the default, recommended setting. Combining high energy efficiency with reduced recovery time, this mode uses the heat pump as the primary heating source.
If after manually operating the valve, it fails to completely reset and continues to release water, immediately close the cold water inlet to the water heater, follow the draining instructions, and replace the temperature-pressure relief valve with a new one. 4. 5. Connect a hose to the drain valve and terminate it to an adequate drain or external to the building, 6.

NOTE: Use the guides/slots when inserting the filter into the water heater.
NOTE: Expansion tanks are pre-charged with a 40 psi air charge. If the inlet water pressure is higher than 40 psi, the expansion tank's air pressure must be adjusted to match that pressure, but must not be higher than 80 psi. Start Up Conditions THERMAL EXPANSION HOT COLD COLD WATER INLET FITTING Property Damage Hazard PRESSURE REDUCING VALVE WITH BYPASS • Avoid water heater damage. • Install thermal expansion tank or device if necessary. • Contact qualified installer or service agency.
"AIR" IN HOT WATER FAUCETS If hydrogen gas is present, there wilt probably be an unusual sound similar to air escaping through the pipe as the hot water faucet is opened.
