A. Thisappliancehasa pilot whichmustbe lightedby
hand.Whenlightingthe pilot,follow these instructions
exactly.
B. BEFORELIGHTINGsmellall aroundtheappliancearea
for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because
somegasis heavierthanairandwillsettleonthefloor.
WHATTODOIFYOUSMELLGAS
Donottrytolightanyappliance.
Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any
phoneinyourbuilding.
Immediatelycall yourgas supplierfroma neighbor's
phone.Followthegassupplier'sinstructions.
If you cannotreachyourgas supplier,callthe fire
department.
C. Useonlyyourhandto pushin orturnthegas control
knob.Neverusetools.If theknobwill not pushin or
turnbyhand,don'ttryto repairit,call aqualifiedser-
vicetechnician,Forceor attemptedrepairmay result
inafireorexplosion,
D.Do not use this applianceif anypart hasbeenunder
water.Immediatelycall a qualifiedservicetechnician
to inspecttheapplianceandto replaceanypartofthe
controlsystemandany gas controlwhichhasbeen
underwater.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
1.STOP!Readthesafetyinformationaboveonthislabel.
2. Removeouterdoor.
3. Set the thermostatto lowest setting byturning the
watertemperaturedial clockwise,(( _,)to its lowest
temperaturesetting(witharrowon dial)asshown.DO
NOT FORCE.
4.Turngascontrolknobclockwise_'V _ to "OFF" posi-
tion. Knob cannot beturned from "PILOT" to "OFF"
unlessknob is depressedslightly.DO NOT FORCE.

5. Waitfive (5) minutesto clearoutany gas.If youthen
smellgas,STOP!Follow"B" in thesafetyinformation
aboveon this label. If you don't smellgas, go to the
nextstep.
6. Remove(or open) inner door locatedbelowthe gas
controlunit.
7.Findpilot-followmetaltube THERMOCOUPLE I'l!, PILOTBURNER
fromgascontrol.Thepilot _F__.,.
islocatedinfront oftheburner. -
8.Ifyoudon'tsmellgas,turnknobon gascontrolcounter
clockwiseL,@ to "PILOT" position.(Figure7,page17)
9. Push in control knob all the way and hold down.
Immediatelylightthe pilotwitha match.Continueto
hold controlknob in for about one (f) minuteafter
thepilot is lit. Releaseknoband itwill popbackup.
Pilotshouldremainlit. If it goesout, repeatsteps 3
through8.
If knobdoesnot pop upwhenreleased,stopand
immediatelycall yourservicetechnicianor gas
supplier.
If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries,
depressandturn thegascontrolknobclockwise
_'_ to "OFF" andcallyourservicetechnician
orgassupplier.(Figure6, page17)
10. Replace(or close)innerdoor.Replaceouterdoor if
doordoesnot covergas controlon/offknobor tem-
peratureadjustmentknob.(Figure9,page17)
11. At armslenqthaway,turn gascontro knobcounter-
clockwise_ to thefull "ON" position.Warning
do not use gas control knob to regulate gas
flow. (Figure8,page17)
12. At armslengthaway,set thethermostatto desired
setting. The mark ( ) indicativeof approximate
120°F is preferred starting point. Somelocal laws
mayrequirea lowerstartingpoint.If hotterwateris
desired,seeinstructionmanualand"warning" below.
13.Replacetheouterdoorif notreplacedinstep10.
WARNING
Hotterwater increasesthe riskof scald injury,Beforechangingtemperaturesettingsee instructionmanual.
TO TURN OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1.Set the thermostatto lowest settingby turningthe
watertemperaturedial clockwise(F_) to its lowest
temperaturesetting(witharrowon dial)asshown.DO
NOT FORCE.
2. Turngas control knob clockwise _t
to
"OFF"
position.Knob cannot be turned from "PILOT" to
"OFF" unless knobis depressedslightly.DO NOT
FORCE.
3. Replaceouterdoor(ifremoved).
