TROUBLESHOOTING
SPRAY PATTERN/PROBLEM SOLUTIONPOSSIBLE REASON
Air leaking from air cap
without pulling trigger.
Thin, sandy, coarse finish/
excessive overspray.
Thick, dimpled finish
resembling orange peel.
Low air pressure.
Gun held too close to
surface.
Regulator/compressor
settings.
Air hose leaks. Tighten and seal hose
fittings if leaks are found.
Use sealing tape.
Adjust the regulator on the
tool to the maximum setting.
Adjust the compressor
regulator to tool maximum
of 29 PSI. NOTE: Air hoses
may cause up to 15 PSI loss
in pressure, so you may need
to set a higher compressor
output to maintain the
required pressure at the tool.
Move gun further from
surface.
1)Sticking air valve stem.
2)Residue on air valve
or seat.
3)Worn or damaged air
valve or sea
t.
4)Broken air valve spring.
5)Bent valve stem.
1)Gun held too far from
surface.
2)Atomization pressure
set too high.
3)Improper
gun motion.
1)Lubricate.
2)Clean.
3)Replace.
4)Replace.
5)Replace.
1)Move gun closer to surface.
2)Adjust atomization pressure.
3)Move at moderate pace,
parallel to surface.
no arcing.
Fluid leakage from packing
nut.
Dripping from fluid tip.
1) Packing nut loose.
2) Packing worn or dry.
1) Dry packing.
2) Sluggish needle.
3) Tight packing nut.
4) Worn fluid nozzle or
needle.
1) Lubricate.
2) Lubricate.
3) Adjust.
4) Replace.
1) Tighten, but do not
restrict needle.
2) Replace packing or
lubricate (non-silicone oil).
