Extended Optical Zoom mechanism
As an example, if you set to [ ] (3 million pixels), pictures will be registered with a
central section of the sensor, utilizing only 3 million of its total of 14.1 million pixels. This
allows you to take more magnified pictures.
Note
The Digital Zoom cannot be set when has been selected.
The indicated zoom magnification is an approximation.
“EZ” is an abbreviation of Extended Optical Zoom”.
The Optical Zoom is set to Wide (1k) when the camera is turned on.
Zoom position is as when the power was turned off if the [ZOOM RESUME] (P34) is set to
[ON].
If you use the zoom function after focusing on the subject, focus on the subject again.
The lens barrel extends or retracts according to the zoom position. Take care not to interrupt
the motion of the lens barrel while the zoom lever is rotated.
When you rotate the zoom lever, you may hear some sound from the camera or the camera
may shake. This is not a malfunction.
When using the Digital Zoom, [STABILIZER] may not be effective.
When using the Digital Zoom, we recommend using a tripod and the Self-Timer (P77) for taking
pictures.
[I.RESOLUTION] is fixed to [i.ZOOM] in Snapshot Mode (when [MOTION DEBLUR] is set to
[OFF]) or Scene Mode

¢ [i.ZOOM] cannot be used when in [HIGH SENS.] or [FLASH BURST] in Scene Mode.
The Extended Optical Zoom cannot be used in the following cases.
[MOTION DEBLUR] in Snapshot Mode
In [HIGH SENS.], [FLASH BURST], [PHOTO FRAME] and [HIGH SPEED MOVIE] in Scene
Mode
[PIN HOLE] in My Color Mode
When recording motion pictures
When [QUALITY] is set to [ ], [ ] or [ ]
[DIGITAL ZOOM] cannot be used in the following cases.
In [HIGH SENS.], [FLASH BURST], [PHOTO FRAME] and [HIGH SPEED MOVIE] in Scene
Mode
[PIN HOLE] or [FILM GRAIN] in My Color Mode
