Understandingthepower-savingmodes
Thereareseveralmodesthatyoucanuseatanytimetoconservepower.Thissectionintroduceseach
modeandgivestipsontheeffectiveuseofthebatterypower.
Introducingthepower-savingmodes
•Screenblank
Thecomputerdisplayrequiresconsiderablebatterypower.Toturnoffpowertothedisplay,dothe
following:
1.Right-clickthePowerManagerBatteryGaugeinthetaskbar.
2.SelectPoweroffdisplay(keepcurrentpowerplan).
•Sleep
Insleepmode,yourworkissavedtomemory,andthenthesolidstatedriveandthecomputerdisplayare
turnedoff.Whenyourcomputerwakesup,yourworkisrestoredwithinseconds.
Toputyourcomputerintosleepmode,pressFn+F4.Toreturnfromsleepmode,presstheFnkey.
Dependingonthecomputermodel,yourcomputermightsupportthe30DayStandbyfunction.When
thefunctionisenabled,thecomputerconsumesevenlesspowerinthesleepmodeandtakesonly
secondstoresumenormaloperationwhenyoupressthepowerbutton.Toenablethe30DayStandby
function,dothefollowing:
1.StartthePowerManagerprogramandswitchtotheadvancedview.
2.ClicktheGlobalPowerSettingstabandselectEnable30DayStandby.
3.ClickApply.The30DayStandbyfunctionwilltakeeffectthenexttimeyoustartyourcomputer.
Formoreinformationaboutthe30DayStandbyfunction,refertothehelpinformationsystemofthe
PowerMangerprogram.
•Hibernation
Byusingthismode,youcanturnoffyourcomputercompletelywithoutsavinglesorexitingfrom
anyapplicationsthatarerunning.Whenthecomputerentershibernationmode,allopenapplications,
folders,andlesaresavedtothesolidstatedrive,andthenthecomputerturnsoff.UsethePower
Managerprogramtocongurehowyouwantthecomputerenterhibernationmode.Toenterhibernation
mode,doasfollows:
1.ClickStart.
2.ClickthetrianglemarkontherightsideoftheShutdownicon,thenselectHibernate
•Wirelessoff
Whenyouarenotusingthewirelessfeatures,suchasBluetoothorwirelessLAN,turnthemoff.Thiswill
helpconservepower.Toturnoffthewirelessfeatures,pressFn+F5orusethewirelessradioswitch.
Enablingthewakeupfunction
Ifyouputyourcomputerintohibernationmode,andthewakeupfunctionisdisabled(thisisthedefault
setting),thecomputerdoesnotconsumeanypower.Ifthewakeupfunctionisenabled,itconsumesasmall
amountofpower.Toenablethefunction,dothefollowing:
1.ClickStart➙ControlPanel➙SystemandSecurity.
2.ClickAdministrativeT ools.
