Whileitisimportanttoprotectles,data,andsettingsthatareonthesolidstatedrive,youalsomight

needtoinstallanewoperatingsystem,installnewdevicedrivers,updateyoursystemUEFIBIOS,or

recoverpreinstalledsoftware.Thisinformationwillhelpyouhandleyourcomputerwithpropercareand

keepitintopworkingshape.

Installinganewoperatingsystem

Ifyouinstallanewoperatingsysteminyourcomputer,youneedtoinstallthesupplementlesandThinkPad

devicedriversforitatthesametime.Thenecessarylesarelocatedinthefollowingdirectoriesofyour

solidstatedrive:

•ThesupplementlesfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\OSFIXESdirectory.

•ThedevicedriversfortheoperatingsystemsupportedareintheC:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERSdirectory.

•ThepreloadedsoftwareapplicationsareintheC:\SWTOOLS\APPSdirectory.

Notes:

•Theprocessofinstallingthenewoperatingsystemdeletesallthedataonyoursolidstatedrive,including

backupsorimagesthatwerestoredinahiddenfolderbyuseoftheRescueandRecoveryprogram.

•Ifyoucannotndthesupplementles,thedevicedrivers,andapplicationsoftwareyouneedonyour

solidstatedrive,orifyouwanttoreceiveupdatesandthelatestinformationaboutthem,goto:

Beforeyoubegin

Beforeyouinstalltheoperatingsystem,dothefollowing:

•CopyallthesubdirectoriesandlesintheC:\SWTOOLSdirectorytoaremovablestoragedevice,toavoid

losinglesduringtheinstallation.

•Printtheinstructionsyouwilluse.

Note:IfyouwanttostartWindowsRecoveryEnvironment(WinRE)usingthe64-bitversionofthe

MicrosoftWindowsInstallationDVD,youshouldnotchangetheinitialUEFI/LegacyBootsettingin

ThinkPadSetup.TheUEFI/LegacyBootsettingmustbethesameasitwaswhentheWindowsoperating

systemimagewasinstalled.Otherwise,youwillseeanerror.
