Occupancy and Vacancy Motion Sensors
That Can Be Used to Comply with 2019 California Title 24,
Part 6, Indoor Device Requirements and 2017 NEC
®
CHALLENGE
Residential new construction in the State of CA
must meet 2019 Title 24 energy code requirements
for Indoor Lighting as well as the NEC 2017.
- 2019 California Title 24 now allows an occupancy sensor to
meet the vacancy requirements
- If occupant sensor is installed, it must be configured
to manual-ON operation
- If occupant sensor is installed, it shall not be capable
of conversion by occupants from manual-ON to
automatic-ON functionality
- NEC 2017 prohibits current on the equipment grounding
conductor during normal operation
CHALLENGE
Residential retrofit construction may not have a
neutral in the wallbox.
NEC 2017 exceptions:
- For replacement in already installed places (allowable to sell
and replace)
- Retrofit: allowed, but will be limited to 5 devices per branch
circuit conductor and 25 per feeder conductors
SOLUTION
All Leviton Occupancy and Vacancy Sensors comply
with 2019 California Title 24 can be used to also meet
the requirements of NEC 2017 for new construction.
- Neutral required for installations in new construction
- 180° field of view, 900 sq. ft. coverage
- Suitable for bathrooms, garages, laundry rooms and
utility rooms
- DOS02, DVS02 are single pole only. DOS05/DVS05 are single/
pole or 3 way and DOS15, DVS15 are single pole or 3-way/
multi-location when used with a DD0SR switch companion.
Also, multi-sensor with two DOS15 or DVS15 sensors
- For use with LED, CFL, Incandescent, Magnetic Low Voltage,
Electronic Low Voltage, Fluorescent Ballast or Motor loads
SOLUTION
All Leviton Occupancy and Vacancy Sensors can be
used to replace an existing wall switch.
- 180° field of view, 900 sq. ft. coverage
- Suitable for bathrooms, garages, laundry rooms and utility rooms
- Single pole or 3-way
- For use with LED, CFL, Incandescent, Fluorescent Ballast
or Motor loads
- DOS15 and DVS15 require a neutral wire for installation
Leviton oers many products that help lower electrical costs and add convenience to everyday living. Replacing standard switches with
sensors helps to reduce energy consumption by ensuring that lights are never left on for an extended period of time.
Residential indoor lighting requirements in the State of California have changed and finding a sensor that meets these new specifications
can be challenging. Fortunately, Leviton oers compliant solutions for new construction and retrofit applications.
