In 1996, the FCC, working with the FDA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and other agencies, established RF exposure safety guidelines for wireless phones in the United States.
Safety energy in the head because the phone, which is the source of the RF emissions, will not be placed against the head. The intent of the HAC Act is to ensure reasonable access to telecommunications services for persons with hearing disabilities.
162 Safety The hearing aid and wireless phone rating values are then added together. A sum of 5 is considered acceptable for normal use. A sum of 6 is considered for best use. In the above example, if a hearing aid meets the M2 level rating and the wireless phone meets the M3 level rating, the sum of the two values equal M5. This should provide the hearing aid user with “normal usage” while using their hearing aid with the particular wireless phone.

If you choose to listen to your portable device in a noisy environment, use noise cancelling headphones to block out background environmental noise. • Limit the amount of time you listen.
Safety TIA Safety Information The following is the complete TIA Safety Information for wireless handheld phones. Exposure to Radio Frequency Signal Your wireless handheld portable phone is a low power radio transmitter and receiver. When ON, it receives and sends out Radio Frequency (RF) signals. In August, 1996, the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) adopted RF exposure guidelines with safety levels for handheld wireless phones.
166 Safety Electronic Devices Most modern electronic equipment is shielded from RF signals. However, certain electronic equipment may not be shielded against the RF signals from your wireless phone. Pacemakers The Health Industry Manufacturers Association recommends that a minimum separation of six (6) inches be maintained between a handheld wireless phone and a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker.
Safety Health Care Facilities Turn your phone OFF in health care facilities when any regulations posted in these areas instruct you to do so. Hospitals or health care facilities may use equipment that could be sensitive to external RF energy. Vehicles RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic systems in motor vehicles. Check with the manufacturer or its representative regarding your vehicle.
168 Safety For Vehicles Equipped with an Air Bag An air bag inflates with great force. DO NOT place objects, including either installed or portable wireless equipment, in the area over the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If in-vehicle wireless equipment is improperly installed and the air bag inflates, serious injury could result. Safety Information Please read and observe the following information for safe and proper use of your phone and to prevent damage.
Safety • Avoid dropping the phone or battery. If the phone or battery is dropped, especially on a hard surface, and the user suspects damage, take it to a service center for inspection. • Improper battery use may result in a fire, explosion or other hazard. Charger Adapter and Cable Safety • The charger and adapter are intended for indoor use only. • Insert the battery charger vertically into the wall power socket. • Only use the LG-approved battery charger.
170 Safety • Recharge the battery after long periods of non-use to maximize battery life. Battery life will vary due to usage pattern and environmental conditions. • Please use only an approved charging accessory to charge your LG phone. Improper handling of the charging port, as well as the use of an incompatible charger, may cause damage to your phone and void the warranty. • The charging temperature range is regulated between 32°F (0°C) and 95°F (35°C).
Safety • Do not place or answer calls while charging the phone as it may shortcircuit the phone and/or cause electric shock or fire. Explosion, Shock, and Fire Hazards • Do not put your phone in a place subject to excessive dust and keep the minimum required distance between the power cord and heat sources. • Unplug the power cord prior to cleaning your phone, and clean the power plug pin when it’s dirty. • When using the power plug, ensure that it’s firmly connected.
172 Safety • The data saved in your phone might be deleted due to careless use, repair of the phone, or upgrade of the software. Please backup your important phone numbers (Ringtones, text messages, voice messages, pictures, and videos could also be deleted.) The manufacturer is not liable for damage due to the loss of data. • When you use the phone in public places, set the ringtone to vibration so you don’t disturb others. • Do not turn your phone on or off when putting it to your ear.
Safety authority to take action if wireless phones are shown to emit Radio Frequency (RF) energy at a level that is hazardous to the user. In such a case, the FDA could require the manufacturers of wireless phones to notify users of the health hazard and to repair, replace, or recall the phones so that the hazard no longer exists.
174 Safety The FCC also regulates the base stations that the wireless phone networks rely upon. While these base stations operate at higher power than do the wireless phones themselves, the RF exposures that people get from these base stations are typically thousands of times lower than those they can get from wireless phones. Base stations are thus not the subject of the safety questions discussed in this document. 3.
Safety wireless phones, so we do not know with certainty what the results of such studies mean for human health. Three large epidemiology studies have been published since December 2000. Between them, the studies investigated any possible association between the use of wireless phones and primary brain cancer, glioma, meningioma, or acoustic neuroma, tumors of the brain or salivary gland, leukemia, or other cancers.
176 Safety The FDA has been a leading participant in the World Health Organization International Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF) Project since its inception in 1996. An influential result of this work has been the development of a detailed agenda of research needs that has driven the establishment of new research programs around the world. The project has also helped develop a series of public information documents on EMF issues.
Safety 8. What has the FDA done to measure the Radio Frequency energy coming from wireless phones? The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is developing a technical standard for measuring the Radio Frequency (RF) energy exposure from wireless phones and other wireless handsets with the participation and leadership of FDA scientists and engineers.
178 Safety measures like those described above to reduce your RF exposure from wireless phone use. 10. What about children using wireless phones? The scientific evidence does not show a danger to users of wireless phones, including children and teenagers. If you want to take steps to lower exposure to Radio Frequency (RF) energy, the measures described above would apply to children and teenagers using wireless phones.
Safety phone and a “compatible” hearing aid at the same time. This standard was approved by the IEEE in 2000. The FDA continues to monitor the use of wireless phones for possible interactions with other medical devices. Should harmful interference be found to occur, the FDA will conduct testing to assess the interference and work to resolve the problem. 12.
180 Safety To prevent direct exposure to laser beam, do not try to open the enclosure or make direct contact with the laser. Precautions when using the device • When replacing the battery, take extra care to ensure that no foreign substances or water enter the device. • Ensure that the inside of the device does not make contact with a metallic object or water. • Press the back cover release key to remove the back cover; do not use force to remove the back cover.
