1 Diagonal Holder: Holds the eyepiece in place.
2 Diagonal Mirror: provides a more comfortable right
angle viewing position. Slide the diagonal mirror
directly into the eyepiece holder .
3 Visual Back Thumbscrew: Tighten screw to securely
hold diagonal mirror, eyepiece, or accessories in
place.
4 Visual Back: Insert the diagonal mirror here and
tighten with adjacent thumbscrew to securely hold in
place.
5 Eyepiece: Place the Super Plössl 26mm eyepiece
into the 90° diagonal mirror and tighten in place with
thethumbscrews.Theeyepiecemagniestheimage
collected in the optical tube.
6 Focus Knob: Moves the telescope’s primary mirror in
anely-controlledmotion to achievepreciseimage
focus. The LX65 telescope can be focused on objects
fromadistanceofabout25ft.toinnity.Rotatethe
focus knob counterclockwise to focus on distant
objects, and clockwise to focus on nearby objects.
7 Red Dot Finder: Provides an easy way to sight on
objects and put them in the telescope’s eyepiece.
8 Computer Control Panel
A. Handbox (HBX) Port: Plug the AudioStar coil cord
into this port.
B. ON/OFF Switch with LED: Turns the telescope
power on and off. The red power indicator
light illuminates when power is applied to the
telescope.
C. Auxiliary (AUX) Port: Provides connection for
Meade accessories and future enhancements.
D. 12V DC Power Input Port: Provides connection
so that the telescope may be powered from either
a 12V DC auto cigarette light plug or from an
optional AC power adapter available from Meade.
E. Auxiliary (AUX) Port: Provides connection for
Meade accessories and future enhancements.
9 Single Fork Arm Mount: Holds the optical tube(s) in
placeandmovesittondandtrackobjects.
10 Dovetail Saddle for Optional Second Optical
Tube: Can optionally hold an additional optical
tube weighing up to 7 lbs in tandem with the main
telescope optical tube.
11 AudioStar Handbox: Plugs into the HBX port.
Provides computerized control for the LX65
including a comprehensive celestial object
database, audio tours, and several other telescope
functions.
12 Optical Tube Assembly: The main optical
component that gathers the light from distant
objects and brings this light to a focus for
examination through the eyepiece.
13 Battery Compartment: Insert eight ANSI 14A
(IEC LR14) Alkaline “C-Cell” (user-supplied)
batteries in compartment. Be sure batteries
are aligned correctly as shown in the battery
compartment.
14 Dust Cover: Protects the optical tube assembly
optics and minimizes dust accumulation during
storage. Always keep the dust cover on the optical
tube when the telescope is not in use.
15 Handbox Storage Cradle: Holds the AudioStar
handbox in a conventional position on the
telescope.
