Turn the ignition key to the START position and start the engine. If the
engine fails to start in ten seconds, wait 30 seconds and try again. If the
engine begins to stall, use the throttle‑only feature and advance the
throttle. Do not exceed 2000 RPM.

6. Check for a steady stream of water flowing out of the water pump
indicator.

IMPORTANT: If no water is coming out of the water pump indicator, stop the
engine and check the cooling water intake for obstruction. No obstruction may
indicate a water pump failure or blockage in the cooling system. These
conditions will cause the engine to overheat. Have the outboard checked by a
certified dealer. Operating the engine while overheated will cause serious
engine damage.
WARMING UP THE ENGINE
Before beginning operation, allow the engine to warm up at idling speed for
three minutes.
