When a new Print Unit (or OPC drum cartridge) is
installed, it will accumulate approximately 1,000 prints
worth of toner in a priming process. With each subsequent
toner installed during the life of the Print Unit, new toner
is mixed with the toner in the Print Unit to help maintain
color consistency. Because a Print Unit yields approxi-
mately 32,500 prints, users will replace toner five times
during the Print Unit’s life. During the life of the fifth
toner, the 1,000 prints worth of toner that primed the Print
Unit initially will be reclaimed (see illustration below).
S UPPLIES M ONITORING
Supplies monitoring is a convenient and practical feature
used, for example, to ensure there is enough toner before
sending a large or high-quantity print job. It’s also helpful
in stocking supplies. Instead of keeping large quantities on
hand, companies can keep a just-in-time inventory of
supplies, requesting new consumables when a certain
percentage remains.
