In addition to its built-in color management system, the
magicolor 7300 supports host-based CMSs for color
matching. MINOLTA-QMS provides ICC-compliant
printer profiles to define the printer’s color space to the
CMS. These profiles are compatible with all standard color
management systems, including Apple ColorSync and
Windows ICM. Profiles are installed on the host system
using directions provided by the operating system manu-
facturer or CMS.
Like the printer-resident color management system, a
host-resident CMS offers calibrated color across all
devices. Additionally, users can preview output on-screen
prior to printing. Unfortunately, these systems aren’t
portable across platforms and can burden the host CPU.

Another method of color matching supported by the
magicolor 7300 via its color control system is PANTONE.
As a standard color system within the graphic arts and
prepress industry, PANTONE specifies hundreds of spot
colors, each identified with a unique number. Each PAN-
TONE color can be simulated on a printer with the appro-
priate combination of process (CMYK) colors.
Within a supporting application, the desired PANTONE
color number and the corresponding CMYK value is
accessed from a look-up table for the printer. MINOLTA-
QMS provides PANTONE Color look-up tables for
supporting popular design and publishing applications.
This feature is provided when printing 600 x 600 x 4 dpi
resolution only.
