Yourmodemwastestedbeforeitwasshippedtoyou.Ifyoucan’tmakeasuccessfulconnection,orifyou
experiencedatalossorgarbledcharactersduringyourconnection,itispossiblethatthemodemis defective.
However,itismorelikelythatthesourceofyourproblemlieselsewhere.The
followingsymptomsaretypicalof
problemsyoumightencounter:
NoneoftheLEDslightwhenthemodem is on.
Themodemdoesnotrespondtocommands.
Themodemdialsbutisunabletomakeaconnection.
Themodemdisconnectswhileonline.
Themodemcannotconnectwhenanswering.
Dataisbeinglost.
Therearegarbagecharactersonthemonitor.
Themodemdoesn’tworkwithCallerID.
Faxanddatasoftwarecan’trunatthesametime.
NoneoftheIndicatorsLight
Whenyoupluginthemodem,theoperatingsystemdetectsandconfiguresthemodem,andtheTRLEDshould
comeon.
IftheTRLEDdoesnotcomeon,ensureyouhaveinstalledthedriverasdescribedinChapter2.
TheModemDoesNotRespondtoCommands
Makesureyouareissuingthemodemcommandsfromdatacommunicationsoftware,eithermanuallyin
terminalmodeorautomaticallybyconfiguringthesoftware.(Youcannotsendcommandstothemodemfrom
theDOSprompt.)
Makesureyouareinterminalmodeinyourdatacommunicationprogram,thentypeATandpressENTER.If
yougetanOKresponsefromyourmodem,yourconnectionsaregoodandtheproblemlikelyisinthe
connectionsetupinyourcommunicationsoftware.
TryresettingyourmodembyunpluggingtheUSBcablefromthemodem,andthenpluggingitbackin.
Tryrebootingthecomputer.
Themodemmighthaveaproblembeyondthescopeofthisuserguide.IfyouhaveanotherMultiTech
modem,tryswappingmodems.Iftheproblemgoesaway,thefirstmodemispossiblydefective.
TheModemCannotConnectWhenAnswering
Autoanswermightbedisabled.Turnonautoanswerinyourdatacommunicationsprogramorsendthe
commandATS0=1(ATS0=2ifyouhaveCallerIDservice)tomakesureyourmodeminterminalmode.
