Vessel Sink & Drain Installation Instructions
Notes:
Review and abide by all building and plumbing codes.
Each Novatto sink should be installed by a professional.
Since some of our vessels are handmade and vary from one to the other, Novatto recommends
using the actual vessel for any recessed cuts. Also, some countertops require different cutting
methods; you should additionally seek the details of your chosen countertop material.
Check to make sure every sink is sealed watertight.
Novatto’s vessel sinks can be installed sitting on the countertop or recessed down up to a third or even
half of its height. You may want to figure out your ideal sink height you would like your vessel sink to be
at. The height is a personal preference as most of the time it is suited for the intended users. Most
vanity heights are set at 30”-32”. After a vessel sink is mounted on top of the counter the vessel height
will be 34”-36” unless it has been recessed.
Steps to Complete Your Project
1. Measure drain opening and mark countertop for drain opening. Mark the spot of the faucet and the
sink. Use a pencil and mark around the bottom ring of the faucet and contact area of the vessel sink.
Allow enough clearance between the faucet and the sink to avoid any water from splashing onto the
counter.
2. Cut the countertop for sink drain opening. The sink hole for our stone and glass vessels is 1 5/8” while
our copper vessels are suited for 1 ½” hole. All of our vessel faucets should have a faucet hole of 1 ½” for
installation.
3. Place the vessel on top of the counter and make sure that the drain fits down inside of the
countertop. If a mounting ring is preferred Novatto provides them in three finishes to match your faucet
and drain. The mounting ring elevates the sink a ½”. It also provides stabilization and more cleaning
room underneath the vessel. Due to design considerations, a mounting ring is not always desirable. If
you want to lower the level of the sink you can simply enlarge the hole. The larger the hole, the more
stability you will achieve in the installation. Be sure to keep the height of the faucet you have chosen in
mind when making these decisions.
4. Use a level to make sure the vessel is sitting level in every direction and install the drain.
6. The nut on the drain pipe will secure the vessel to the countertop. Be sure that you don't over tighten
the drain assembly. Hand tightening will be sufficient. The breakage we see with vessels is usually
related with an improper installation of the drain.
7. You may want to use a bead of clear silicone to seal in-between the outside edge of vessel where it is
mounted to the countertop.
When cleaning up after installations, DO NOT USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS, as they may scuff and change
the finish on the copper and stone sinks. Use soft soap and warm water with a washcloth to clean the
surface. If more information is needed refer to “Novatto’s Care and Maintenance” section.
