Preparation Quick Guide This is an overview of how to record and playback pictures with the camera. Preparation Charging the Battery with the Charger 3 Detach the battery after charging is completed. The battery is not charged when the camera is shipped. Preparation About the Battery (charging/number of recordable pictures) w Battery indication The remaining battery power appears on the screen. [It does not appear when you use the camera with the AC adaptor (DMW-AC5; optional) connected.] The number of recordable pictures varies depending on the recording interval time. If the recording interval time becomes longer, the number of recordable pictures decreases. [e.g.
Preparation Inserting/Removing the Battery 3 Close the card/battery door. Slide the release lever in the direction of the arrow. • Check that the camera is turned off and that the lens is retracted. OPEN LOCK 1 Slide the release lever in the direction of the arrow and open the card/battery door. OPEN LOCK • Always use genuine Panasonic batteries (CGA-S005A). 2 Insert: Insert the charged battery fully being careful about the direction you insert it. Remove: Slide the lock to remove the battery.

Preparation About the Card Please confirm the latest information on the following website. w Access to the card The card access indication lights red when pictures are being recorded onto the card. Preparation Setting Date/Time (Clock Set) w Initial setting The clock is not set so the following screen appears when you turn the camera on. (P48) • If the distance between the camera and the subject is beyond the focus range of the camera, the picture may not be properly focused even if the focus indication lights. • In the following cases, the camera will not focus on subjects properly. – When there are both near and distant subjects in a scene. – When there is dirt or dust on glass between the lens and the subject.

Advanced w Histogram • A histogram is a graph that displays brightness along the horizontal axis (black to white) and the number of pixels at each brightness level on the vertical axis. • It allows you to easily check a picture’s exposure. • It is very useful if manual adjustments of the lens aperture and shutter speed are available, especially in those situations where automatic exposure may be difficult due to uneven lighting.
Advanced Brightening the LCD Monitor (Power LCD/High angle mode) • If the mode dial is set to [ ], the Power LCD function only can be used. 1 Press [LCD MODE] for 1 second. DISPLAY/LCD MODE [ ]: The LCD monitor [POWER LCD] becomes brighter and easier to see even when taking pictures outdoors. The LCD monitor is [ ]: [HIGH ANGLE] easier to see when taking pictures with the camera held high above your head. This is useful when you cannot get close to the subject because there is a person in the way.
Advanced w Canceling High angle mode or Power LCD • If you press and hold [LCD MODE] again for 1 second the screen shown in step 2 is displayed. Select [OFF] to cancel Power LCD mode or High angle mode. • High angle mode is also canceled if you turn the camera off or power save mode is activated. • The brightness of the pictures displayed on the LCD monitor is adjusted when Power LCD mode or High angle mode is activated. (P49) This mode allows you to take vivid pictures of a starry sky or a dark subject that you could not take in [NIGHT SCENERY] by making the shutter speed slower. Others [MOTION RECORDING WAS CANCELLED DUE TO THE LIMITATION OF THE WRITING SPEED OF THE CARD] • When you set the picture quality to [30fpsVGA] or [30fps16:9], we recommend using a high speed SD Memory Card with “10MB/s” or greater displayed on the package. • Depending on the type of SD Memory Card or SDHC Memory Card, recording may stop in the middle. [A FOLDER CANNOT BE CREATED] A folder cannot be created because there are no remaining folder numbers that can be used.

If the lens is dirty, turn on the camera, eject the lens barrel (P10) and gently wipe the lens surface with a soft dry cloth.

(P20) – In economy mode, the LCD monitor turns off while the flash is charged. 2: The LCD monitor becomes darker or brighter for a moment. • This phenomenon appears when you press the shutter button halfway to set the aperture value and does not affect the recorded pictures. 3: The LCD monitor flickers indoors.
Others 3: The folder number and the file number are displayed as [—] and the screen turns black. • Is the picture edited with a PC or recorded with a digital camera from another manufacturer? This may also happen if the battery is removed immediately after recording or if recording with a exhausted battery. – Format the data to delete the pictures mentioned above. (P91) (Formatting irretrievably deletes all data including the other pictures. Check the data carefully before formatting.
