Getting Started Precautions Before using this unit, be sure to read the applicable items of the operating instructions and these safety suggestions carefully. Afterwards keep them handy for future reference. Take special care to follow the warnings indicated on the unit itself as well as in the operating instructions. Power source 1. Power Source—The unit should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating instructions or as marked on the unit.
1. Water and Moisture—Do not use this unit near water—for example, near a bathtub, washbowl, swimming pool, or the like. Damp basements should also be avoided. 2. This unit can play both the PAL and NTSC video systems. To view PAL or NTSC on your television however, your television must match the system used on the disc.
The producer of the material can control how these discs are played. This means that you may not be able to control play of a disc with some operations described in these operating instructions. Read the disc’s instructions carefully. ∫ DVD-RAM discs DVD-RAM discs must meet the following conditions for this unit to be able to play them. It may not be possible to play some discs due to the condition of the recording.

Glossary Bitstream This is the digital form of multiple channel audio data (e.g., 5.1 channel) before it is decoded into its various channels. Decoder A decoder restores the coded audio signals on DVDs to normal. This is called decoding. Direct navigator This is a list of programs you have recorded. You can select programs from the list to view. The list also shows the date and time of recording, the channel, and the titles of titled programs.
Playback control (PBC) If a Video CD has playback control, you can select scenes and information with menus (called menu play in these instructions). Play list This is a collection of scenes. It enables you to play these scenes in succession or to select specific ones to play. Program This is a division on DVD-RAM. Sampling rate This is the number of samples of sound taken per second during conversion to a digital signal. Sampling frequency is expressed in kilohertz (kHz).

If you are in doubt about some of the check points, or if the remedies indicated in the chart do not solve the problem, consult your dealer for instructions. Problem Solution The audio soundtrack or subtitle language cannot be changed. Languages can only be selected if they are recorded on the DVD. Subtitles not shown. Disc and unit handling precautions For Your Reference Concerning discs Do not use irregularly shaped discs, such as heart-shaped. (These discs can damage the unit.) ∫ If the disc is brought from a cold to a warm environment, moisture may form on the disc If the disc is a DVD-RAM or a DVD-R, use the DVD-RAM/PD disc cleaner (LF-K200DCA1, available from Panasonic dealers) to wipe dry.
