R e c o r d i n g P r o g r a m s Recording Programs The TiVo Plus service gives you smart recording capabilities that can detect when a program’s date or time slot has changed, can find the same program across multiple channels, and can even tell first run programs from repeats. In addition, with TiVo Plus you can set a different recording quality for each recording you schedule. Season Pass and Other Repeating Recordings There are two kinds of recordings: individual recordings and repeating recordings.
C h a p t e r ® 6 F e a t u r e s of T i V o An exception to the 28-day rule may These three types of repeating recordings have the following in common: occur if the program wasn’t watched • No duplicates within 28 days. If you watch or delete a particular episode or showing, it will not be recorded automatically again for 28 days. This prevents Now Playing from filling up with shows you probably don’t want.
R e c o r d i n g P r o g r a m s Recording Options Recording Options give you more control over your scheduled recordings to make sure you get exactly what you want. With TiVo Plus, the Program Information screen that appears when you select a program includes choices to “Record this episode” or “Get a Season Pass.” When one of these is highlighted, “Options” appears to its right. To see Recording Options, use RIGHT arrow to highlight “Options,” then press SELECT. To set Recording Options: 1.
C h a p t e r 6 All (with duplicates) is a good ® choice for programs with generic or inconsistent program information in the program guide. F e a t u r e s of T i V o P l u s Choosing “All (with duplicates)” means that duplicate programs are recorded even if they air within 28 days of each other. (See page 74 for more information.) Keep Until. Available only for repeating recordings. You can change this setting from “Space needed” (the default setting) to “Until I delete.” Keep At Least.
R e c o r d i n g P r o g r a m s Season Pass Manager Use the Season Pass Manager to create rules for how you want the TiVo service to prioritize your repeating recordings. For example, say you have a Season Pass to ER and a Season Pass to Dateline. What if ER happens to air at the same time as Dateline? The Recorder checks priorities in the Season Pass Manager to decide which program to record. If the ER Season Pass has a higher priority, then ER is recorded and Dateline is not.
C h a p t e r 6 F e a t u r e s of T i V o P l u s Improved To Do List With TiVo Plus, the To Do List still has Recording History and lists all scheduled recordings in one place. However, you can now also use it to change Recording Options (even for individual episodes of a repeating recording), and you can use “View upcoming” to look for alternate showings of programs you can’t record because of scheduling conflicts.
F i n d i n g Y o u r F a v o r i t e P r o g r a m s Finding Your Favorite Programs The TiVo Plus service provides many ways to quickly search large numbers of TV programs, find your favorites, and schedule recordings. The following options are very useful if you already know what program you want to record. You can also use any of them to just browse through TV listings for interesting programs: Use Guide Options to filter the TiVo Live Guide, Search by Title, Browse by Time, Browse by Channel.
C h a p t e r 6 F e a t u r e s of T i V o P l u s • [Channels] You Receive. This is the default list. It displays only the channels you have chosen in the Channels You Receive list. • Favorites. The Favorites list is for channels you watch frequently. Use this list to save time when browsing the TiVo Live Guide. Include only a few channels in this list, so that you can quickly look at what’s coming up on them. Day and Time. Sets the guide to show what’s on at a particular day and time. Filtering.
F i n d i n g Y o u r F a v o r i t e P r o g r a m s Search by Title Search by Title, located in Pick Programs to Record, finds programs, even if you just know the first part of the title. To find a specific program: 1. Highlight “Search by Title,” and then press SELECT. 2. The screens that follow let you limit your search by category and then subcategory. 3. The next screen has a grid of numbers and letters. Notice the white box around the letter A.
C h a p t e r 6 F e a t u r e s of T i V o P l u s Browse by Time Browse by Time lets you browse all programs on a particular day and time. With Browse by Time, you can filter the list to see only programs in a particular category. For example, you can browse all the movies airing on Saturday night. To browse by time: 1. Use the arrow buttons to highlight a category (for example, “Movies”) to narrow the list of programs, then press SELECT. 2.
F i n d i n g Y o u r F a v o r i t e P r o g r a m s Browse by Channel Browse by Channel lets you browse through programs on a particular channel. You can start with all channels or just your favorites. To browse by channel: 1. Highlight and select either “All Channels,” which includes all the channels you receive, or “Favorite Channels,” which includes just the channels you have selected as your favorites. (For information on customizing these channel lists, see page 51.) 2.
C h a p t e r 6 F e a t u r e s of T i V o P l u s Finding Programs That Match Your Interests If you know what you like, WishList searches are great! Static IP Address Checklist If you do not have a DHCP server, you need to provide: • An IP address for your Recorder, • A Subnet Mask for your home network, • An IP address for your home gateway or router, and • An IP address for a DNS (Name Server).
C o m p l e t i n g t h e R e c o r d e r ’ s N e t w o r k S e t t i n g s would be common to all devices on the network. The last part, ‘12’, would be unique to a device on the network. Subnet Mask A subnet mask allows communication between a large network (such as the Internet) and a smaller sub-network (such as your home network). It uses the same format as an IP address and is usually provided by your Internet service provider (ISP). The subnet mask for a home network is usually ‘255.255.255.0’.
C h a p t e r 8 C o nn e c t i n g t o a H o m e N e t w o r k Confirm Settings Review the settings and select “Accept these settings” if they are correct.
