Using Buddy Status Lists
A Buddy Status list is a list of users/devices whose status, or “presence,” you
can monitor. Users update their presence setting (for example, “Be right back,”
“Out to lunch,” or “Busy”), and you can view their status in real time from
your phone’s Buddy Status screen, or from the idle screen (if your buddy has
a Speed Dial Key on your phone). If you like, you can block others from
monitoring your status.
Your phone can “watch” the status of up to eight other phones. These phones
form your “Buddy Status list.” Your phone can be monitored by up to eight
other phones.
If your phone is configured to work with Microsoft Office Live
Communications Server 2005, the behavior of presence settings and
Buddy Status lists is different. For more information, see “Integrating with
Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005” on page 96, or contact your
system administrator.
Updating Your Presence Settings
Your presence setting indicates your status (either online, busy, be right back,
away, out to lunch, offline, or do not disturb). Update your presence setting so
that other users can monitor your status from their phones.
When you select a presence setting (other than online), the setting scrolls
under the time display on the status bar on your phone.
• Monitoring the status (presence) of contacts is an optional feature that your
system administrator enables. Your system may not support it. For more
information, contact your system administrator.
• If your phone is provisioned by a Polycom
®
Converged Management
Application™ (CMA™) system, your phone handles presence and Buddy
Status lists differently than what is described in this section. For information on
monitoring the status of CMA contacts, see “Using Buddy Status Lists with a
CMA System” on page 99.
Depending on the types of phones you monitor, and how they are configured, you
may be able to monitor up to 48 buddies.
