The generator is an engine–driven, revolving field, alternating current (AC) generator. It was designed to supply electrical power for operating compatible electrical lighting, appliances, tools and motor loads. The generator’s revolving field is driven at about 4,500 rpm by a single-cylinder engine.
WARNING Starter cord kickback (rapid retraction) will pull hand and arm toward engine faster than you can let go which could cause broken bones, fractures, bruises, or sprains resulting in serious injury. • When starting engine, pull cord slowly until resistance is felt and then pull rapidly to avoid kickback. • NEVER start or stop engine with electrical devices plugged in and turned on.
• DO NOT connect generator to a building’s electrical system. • DO NOT touch bare wires or receptacles. • DO NOT use generator with electrical cords which are worn, frayed, bare or otherwise damaged. • DO NOT operate generator in the rain or wet weather. • DO NOT handle generator or electrical cords while standing in water, while barefoot, or while hands or feet are wet. • DO NOT allow unqualified persons or children to operate or service generator.
Your generator requires some assembly and is ready for use after it has been properly serviced with the recommended fuel and oil. If you have any problems with the assembly of your generator, please call the generator helpline at (800) 743-4115. If calling for assistance, please have the model, revision, and serial number from the identification label available. See Generator Features and Controls for identification label location. Unpack Generator 1. Set the carton on a rigid, flat surface. 2.
Grounding Fastener The generator neutral is floating, which means that the AC stator winding is isolated from the grounding fastener and the AC receptacle ground pins. On a floating neutral generator the AC receptacle ground pins are not functional. Electrical devices, such as a GFCI, requiring a functioning AC receptacle ground pin will not operate. A WARNING POISONOUS GAS HAZARD. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that could kill you in minutes.

Cord Sets and Receptacles Use only high quality, well-insulated, grounded extension cords with the generator’s receptacles. Inspect extension cords before each use. Check the ratings of all extension cords before you use them. Check the operator’s manuals of devices for the manufacturer’s recommendations. WARNING Damaged or overloaded electrical cords could overheat, arc, and burn resulting in death or serious injury.
Operation Starting the Engine Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator. Use the following start instructions: 1. Make sure unit is on a level surface. NOTICE Failure to start and operate the unit on a level surface will cause the unit not to start or shut down during operation. 2. Turn the engine switch (A) to the ON (I) position. A ) position. WARNING Exhaust heat/gases could ignite combustibles, structures or damage fuel tank causing a fire, resulting in death or serious injury.
1. Make sure the green output indicator light comes on (it may take up to three seconds). 2. Let engine stabilize and warm up for a few minutes after starting. 3. Plug in and turn on the desired 120 Volt AC, single phase, 60 Hz electrical loads. NOTICE • DO NOT connect 240 Volt loads to the 120 Volt receptacle. • DO NOT connect 3-phase loads to the generator. • DO NOT connect 50 Hz loads to the generator. • DO NOT OVERLOAD THE GENERATOR. See Generator Capacity.
To make sure your generator can supply enough running watts and starting watts for the items you will power at the same time, follow these simple steps: 1. Select the items you will power at the same time. See following list for typical wattages.
Maintenance Schedule Follow the hourly or calendar intervals, whichever occurs first. More frequent service is required when operating in adverse conditions noted below.
Cleaning Fuel Strainer The fuel strainer helps prevent debris from entering the fuel system. Clean the fuel strainer as follows: 1. Make sure generator is on a level surface. 2. Remove the fuel cap (A) and fuel strainer (B). A B * Below 40°F (4°C) the use of SAE 30 will result in hard starting. ** Above 80°F (27°C) the use of 10W30 may cause increased oil consumption. Check oil level more frequently.
CAUTION Avoid prolonged or repeated skin contact with used motor oil. • Used motor oil has been shown to cause skin cancer in certain laboratory animals. • Thoroughly wash exposed areas with soap and water. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. DON’T POLLUTE. CONSERVE RESOURCES. RETURN USED OIL TO COLLECTION CENTERS. To service the air cleaner, follow these steps: 1. Loosen the side maintenance cover screws and remove the side maintenance cover. 2.
6. Install spark plug and tighten firmly. Reinstall spark plug boot. 7. Reinstall top maintenance cover. 2. Remove screw that attaches spark arrester screen to muffler. Remove spark arrester screen. 3. Inspect screen and obtain a replacement if torn, perforated or otherwise damaged. DO NOT use a defective screen. If screen is not damaged, clean it with a brush. 4. Reattach screen to muffler. Reattach muffler guard.
The generator should be started at least once every seven days and allowed to run at least 30 minutes. If this cannot be done and you must store the unit for more than 30 days, use the following guidelines to prepare it for storage. Generator Storage • Clean the generator as outlined in Cleaning. • Check that cooling air slots and openings on generator are open and unobstructed. Other Storage Tips 1.
Problem Engine is running, but no AC output is available. Engine runs good at no-load but “bogs down” when loads are connected. Cause 1. Red overload alarm light is on. Generator is overloaded. 2. Green output indicator light not on. Fault in generator. 3. Poor connection or defective cord set. 4. Connected device is bad. 1. Short circuit in a connected load. 2. Engine speed is too slow. 3. Plan de mantenimiento Siga los intervalos de horas o de calendario, los que sucedan antes. Si opera en condiciones adversas (señaladas más abajo) es necesario un mantenimiento más frecuente.
Limpieza del filtro de combustible El filtro de combustible ayuda a evitar la entrada de residuos en el sistema de combustible. Limpie el filtro de combustible como se indica a continuación: 1. Asegúrese de que el generador esté en una superficie plana. 2. Quite el tapón del combustible (A) y el filtro del combustible (B). A 3. Lave el filtro de combustible en líquido detergente y agua. 4. Limpie el filtro de combustible con un trapo limpio y seco. 5.
Cambio de aceite del motor Si está utilizando su generador bajo condiciones de extrema suciedad o polvo, o en un clima demasiado caliente, haga el cambio de aceite más frecuentemente. PRECAUCIÓN Evite el contacto prolongado o repetido de piel con aceite usado de motor. Para dar servicio al filtro de aire, siga los pasos que se detallan a continuación: 1. Afloje los tornillos de la tapa de mantenimiento lateral y quítela. 2. Afloje el tornillo de la tapa del filtro de aire (A) y extráigala (B).
5. Cambie la bujía si los electrodos están picados o quemados o si la porcelana está agrietada. Utilice la bujía de repuesto recomendada. Consulte Especificaciones. Limpie e inspeccione la pantalla antichispas como sigue: 1. Para quitar el protector del silenciador, quite los cuatro tornillos que sujetan el protector al generador. 6. Instale la bujía y apriete firmemente. Vuelva a colocar el recubrimiento de la bujía. 7. Vuelva a colocar la tapa de mantenimiento superior.
El generador deberá ser encendido al menos una vez cada siete días y deberá dejarlo funcionar al menos durante 30 minutos.
