8. Charging the vehicle battery
Refer to the information in sections 6 and 7.
• The vehicle battery is not included with the product and must be purchased separately. Depending on your require-
ments, you can purchase a low-cost entry-level battery or a professional battery with a larger capacity.
This vehicle is only suitable for use with a 6-cell NiMH battery (nominal voltage 7.2 V) or a 2-cell LiPo bat-
tery (nominal voltage 7.4 V).
• The vehicle battery is empty when the product is shipped and must be charged. Several complete discharge and
chargecyclesarerequiredtoensurethatthebatteryreachesitmaximumperformance.
• When using a NiCd battery, drive the vehicle until the battery is completely empty. Charging a half-full NiCd battery
may cause the battery to lose its capacity and shorten the battery life ("memory effect").
NiMH and LiPo batteries can be recharged when they are partially discharged. They do not normally need to be
fully discharged in advance.
• High-quality vehicle batteries have a higher capacity, which results in a longer battery life. They also have a higher
output voltage, which provides more power for the motor for enhanced acceleration and higher speeds.
• For best results, use a high-quality charger. These usually come with a quick-charging feature for faster charging
speeds.
• The vehicle battery heats up when charging/discharging (i.e. when driving the vehicle). Wait until the battery has
reachedroomtemperaturebeforechargingit.Thesameappliesafterthebatteryhasnishedcharging.Allowthe
battery to cool down before connecting it to the vehicle.
• Only use a charger that is designed for the type of vehicle battery used.
• Always remove the battery from the vehicle before recharging it.
